1986.

In order to meet the term "classic" you have to be 25 years or older....so I think that's the most fair and realistic way to go....

Theyre inexpensive and look better than the A-Body for sure.

one of these can be had for around 4-7 thousand dollars depending on condition and engine. i picked this one up from the original owner for 3200 and it's only got 92000 documented miles. totally unmolested when i got it but i fully intend to molest it

well not ALL kids drive ricers! haha yea when i was looking for my first car, i wouldnt even look at anything that wasnt a muscle car, and i never considered something that wasnt a camaro. but if you have the funds, these would be GREAT:
late 60s early 70s chevelle
early 70s nova, 442, cutlass, gto
any year Firebird or Camaro

if youre on a tight budget, honestly a 3rd gen camaro or firbird would be your best bet. might be able to find a few 2nd gens fairly cheap, but theyre rare.

i got my camaro when i was 16(im 18 now) and even though i couldnt afford a nice one, i never regretted buying it!! good luck!!

P.S. and in case anyones wondering, the cutoffs are- 20 years old to be COLLECTOR, 25 years old to be CLASSIC, and 30 years old to be VINTAGE.

no most skylarks were hardtops and pretty well optioned compared to the chevelles, my car is actually a special which would be the same as a 300 deluxe in the chevelle world. very rare for a buick and not many made. my car actually has rubber floor matt instead of carpet and the base model seats. it came with body color 14" steel wheels and poverty caps. I added the 15" rallies

I heard most 70's camaro's aren't usually V8 though, is that still muscle?

It doesn't matter what kind of engine originally came in the car since all the classic muscle cars had 6 cylinder options.

Heck some guys pull V8's in favor for more modern 6's.

Don't forget to include the '80's gen 3 Camaro. In 1982, you could buy a new Camaro with a 90hp 4 cylinder engine.

68'-72' Novas are the best bang for your buck if you are looking for a street/strip car. Mono-leaf suspension, light weight, big engine bay, and the parts are CHEAP CHEAP CHEAP. I bought my 72' when I was 15 (2001) and built a junk yard 350. In 2005 the car was running low 11s all motor. Did it all on my $5.15/hr minimum wage job too.

Here's a quick video of mine-
