I am even going to argue this time. The SRT8 is quicker than SS, the ZL1 isn't even on the roads yet, and SRT8 is closer in price tothe SS then the GT500 and ZL1 will be. The fact is you guys want the SRT8 to be slower than it is, well guess what, it IS running mid 12s out of the box, it is neither a direct competitor to the SS or the GT500, in price or performance. What really is your reasoning? motor wise, with a NORMALLY ASPRIATED V8 with more than 6 liters, it is FAR more of a competitor for the SS, It doesn't have the SUPERCHARGER of the GT500 or ZL1 and falls nearly in the middle in price between the SS and ZL1, though the camaro doesn't even offer as many features as the SRT8 comes with stock...... It is really a more feature laden competitor to the SS than the ZL1 or GT500, it far and away, has more in common with the SS and GT.

edit: The 2SS is basically top out at 36k, there is not much to add unless someone wants the overpriced 4.5k 21" wheels for the bling factor. |

Just stop. Before the car even came out the dodge camp was running mid 12s in bone stock form at the strip. The car is perfectly capable of these times stock, so why do you assume it is modded?

Because it hurts ones pride when the reality that the SS is now the slowest of the 3 pony cars stock. The way you make yourself feel better is by insisting that the 392 Challengers doing those runs are not stock and by clinging to the slowest magazine time.

I don't disagree that the 392 is faster than the SS and I believe it will prove to be faster than the 5.0 as well, but I agree with those that are saying the SRT is not a direct competitor with the 5.0 and SS. The R/T is the 5.0 and SS competitor. The SRT is in a different class in which it is not really a direct competitor with any of the pony cars. If anything, it's closest competitor is the Boss, but the Boss is a track car while the 392 is a cruiser with muscle.

The SRT8 and Boss both are essentially pony cars without a class. They arent in the same class as the 5.0 or SS, but they are not Supercharged, 50,000 dollar monsters. They are essentially stuck between classes. |

chrysler has 3 levels, while gm and ford are playing with 2. So monetarily, the RT and the SS are on the same field, but performancewise, they don't stack up. So now GM is bringing the Z28 and ZL1, so how is that going to compare? Monetarily and performancewise? Z28 vs. srt8, then ZL1 all up there on it's own? Chrysler didn't come to the table with a FI SRT8. it's not all that easy to compare one against the other really.

because every mag has them running in the high 12's.....i'm not saying its not faster than a stock ss....for 10k more it better be.....but saying 1 car running a 12.3 equals the the 392 being a low 12 stock car is ridiculous when there are more times out there showing higher.

Thats fine Edmunds also had a stock SS at 12.8 in a article....do i believe that...no....but again saying this pushes the Camaro to the back of the pack is ridiculous....a loaded auto 392 is about 48K....a loaded 2ss is 37k......R/T vs SS and they are on even ground.

Props for sure to the 392. Seems like they are going to drive up the competition some. That just means everyone in an LS3 needs to show them what you can do with the extra $10k you saved over a new SRT8. Last I checked 10k can buy you a few horsepower for these cars right????

So..the difference between a SRT8 and a equally equipped 2SS is actually around 6800 dollars..not 10,000. |
