I thought the ICE's primary purpose is to power the onboard generator to recharge the battery when it runs low while simultaneously powering the electric motors directly. in addition to the regenerative breaking.

guess not.... they should offer a tune to allow it.

even if it is 1/6 of the cost to recharge by plug-in vs gas

Nope, it just maintains the depleted battery level. GM decided that it caused too much wear on the battery pack.

hmm... now what if I had an in car power inverter that I could plug into the cigarette lighter, then run a cord to the plug in on the car, thus allowing the generator to power the battery.

altho there's probably something in the ECM to prevent you from driving the car while the external plug is engaged.



I'm seriously thinking of leasing a Volt. I just dont know if I could keep it under 12k miles per year. I've already put 8k on my truck since January.
