I don't think wiping out any animal species that proves to be an inconvenience to us is very forward thinking, nor is it very efficient.
Including a few lama or donkey in a herd of sheep has been proven effective at deterring coyotes....both have been know to kill coyotes that attempt to attack the herd. These "guard" animals are always with the herd, even when the farmer is not.

Coyotes are part of the same ecosystem we are...they deserve to be here, and frankly if you compare the coyotes destructive imprint on the earth to ours I think you'll find we are way ahead of them in that uneviable category.

The idea that hunting down coyotes in droves is in anyway a responsible or effective solution to livestock predation is just redneck thinking, IMHO.

And for the record I live in the country and own several firearms.

I don't think any of these ranchers are attempting to wipe out the population, they're simply killing them as soon as they become a threat to their herd. And as stated, coyotes definitely do NOT have a population problem...

No, you're right. They are definitely no endangered, but neither were wolves until ranchers and farmers started ruthlesly hunting them.

I have no problem with a farmer shooting a coyote if he sees one on his property, but there is undeniably a very prevalent mentality among ranchers and farmers that beleive exterminating the coyote population is the only disreable end.

The same "problem" exists here in Canada too. A farmer loses one sheep to predation (which he's reimbursed by the government for his loss) and suddenly every farmer starts calling for a bounty on coyotes.

Exactly, these people can bash me or make fun all they want I got my big girl pants on, whatever but they are still NOT native to FLORIDA YOU guys do your research to the people that are still poking me about that. However I'm just sayin that they kill and hurt our animals and WE have to foot the bills for it. They serve no purpose on this planet but to be a clean up crew like buzzards. That is my point.

Ladies and Gentlemen please accept my apology. I did not mean to offend anyone with this post nor did I mean to start a "flame war" from any of the perceived side issues related to this post.

The ability to so easily offend on a forum amazes me.

MODS, perhaps you should close or better yet, delete this thread.

Yeah I get what you're saying. Technically if the wolves were still around in their original numbers, the coyotes wouldn't be so widespread now. Or other natural predators, cougars for example in Florida.
