Owning SSes for 50 Years
|
Boss Is Back
This is another typical Ford/Barett-Jackson Mustang. Build 750 LSs and those are sold quickly to collectors who will stash them away in a heated and ACed garage for 30 years and sell them for $500K. With that few a number, it's doubtful that any of us would ever see one in person, much less a chance meeting on a road course with a Z06. If Ford is serious about proving the Boss's performance, take it to the Nurburgring in Germany...that's where the rubber meets the road. Ford has only one American made car listed in the lap records, a GT500 and it's 14 seconds slower than the Z06.

Strange Numbers
Road and Track and Car & Driver both tested the Boss in this month's issues. One showed it running 12.2 and the other a 12.8. I hope I meet the slower one at the drag strip with my Camaro....lol.

thats where the rubber meets the road??? Nurburgring is an awesome track but thats not the only track that serious people drive on. Leguna Seca is a professional course.

Nurburgring is nothing more than a toll road anymore. Some series race the Nordschleife part but it's usually local touring car series. The only part of Nurburgring that is maintained is the GP-Strecke that F1 races on. It's only about 3 miles long... Ford usually doesn't take American cars to Germany to test them. I have seen some of GM's Nurburgring times for the cars they run here (CTS-V), it takes a highly gifted driver to run below a 10 minute lap.. It also requires the road to be closed because it just isn't possible while pedestrians and their families are out there driving too.
If the Boss 302's do sell out quickly (confirmed now, they are sold out), I am hoping that Ford does a Job #2 this year. If people are buying them, why not sell them. Last edited by thePill; 04-03-2011 at 06:02 PM. |

I still don't like the looks of this car but you cant overlook all of it stats. I think its really cool that ford made a purpose built track car for the street. I just cant see chevy being able to compete with the Boss until they ditch their current overweight platform.

a '12 C6 Zo6 does not compare to the car in '05, it got an update in 2008 and a HUGE update this year... did you see its return the the ring this year? it'd WALK a Boss 302, drag strip, on the ring, on Laguna Seca, etc... it lapped the Ring at 7:22.68 this year, which was OVER 20 seconds faster than the car in '05(though it was rolling start vs standing, it's still A LOT faster than the debut C6 Zo6 on a race track)... you think the 302 Mustang will get within 20 seconds of that time? Ford does not have a car that will beat the new C6 Zo6 on the Ring, not even the damn old Ford GT, which was only 2 seconds faster than the OLD C6 Zo6, lol(the '05 time)
