Like I repeat in many posts, body weight (fat) doesn't follow a set rule. Usually loosing 5 lbs overnight is more than likely water weight but there are so many variables. In reality you could weigh yourself every hour of the day and your weight will keep changing . You can follow a super strict diet and an exercise program and keep it the exact same for a week or two, weigh yourself everyday and weight loss will still vary quite a bit from day to day. This is why you can't pay attention to daily weight changes or even fat caliper readings, it's the graduall changes over a period of time that's a true inicator. In theory you say your weight hasn't changed but your waist has gotten smaller, in a couple of days or a week you could hop on the scale and see a big weight loss or for that matter weight gain but a trend will be apparent over time. Usually changes weekly or bi-weekly are more easily observed.

concerning the waist, there is one thing, which occurs pretty often
when you change your food consumption from less good stuff to better food, your digestive system might be accelerated...
so in the beginning of your diet you start to loose more of your metabolic waste, which means less weight and less waist. often you loose even more weight due to the loss of water (as less sugar and salt lead to less storage of water)
but after a certain time the body gets used to the diet you have chosen, which means (this is different for each of us, each body reacts in a different way), your body returns the old water-"level", so you gain weight
in do not know how muscular your waist was before the start of the diet
you wrote: i did not exercise at all: so maybe it was not only loss of (excuse me) bodyfat around your waist (leading to less inches of waist), but it could also have been loss of muscle (leading to still droping inches around the waiste)

to make it short
the easiest part (the beginning of a diet) is done
now it is not only loosing weight or inches but heading for more quality
one essential device is your mirror
by a look into the mirror you can tell, if you are only getting smaller (probably not your aim -- we all can starve ourselves to death, but what for) or better (less fat and more muscle)
to achive this you need to exercise
advantage #1: you will improve your looks (nice to have)
advantage #2: exercise is important for your overall health and most important for hard working people to avoid heartattacks.

so: how cares about an inch more or less around the waist, important seems more investment into your health

so any additional activity will be the right

find a few minutes for some push ups, chin ups, sit ups etc (you know that stuff best), go for a walk in a park, in the woods, on the beach...
30 mins of jogging every other day...

this might crank your metabolism up, and the higher the "idle", to more calories will be burned and you will be on your way
Good stuff guys. Thanks.

But you are supposed to tell me I don't need to excersize and I'll be ripped like a greek god....................

Yeah...it can be boring if your mind isn't in it. The first time I did the P90X Yoga video I was bored outta my mind and wanted to turn it off 20 minutes into it, but that was also because it was pretty BRUTAL and I was focused more on how much it hurt and counting each second until the pose was OVER!! LoL! Once I got past the vinyasas and into the balance poses it was much better. Now that I have built up my strength, I live for Yoga days because I can actually do most of the poses now and the hour+ video seems to fly by in minutes!

So, I was wondering what everyone's favorite energy bars are and why??

Mine are Clif Bars (crunchy peanut butter and oatmeal raisin walnut flavors are my faves)....I like them because they are full of goodness AND taste great!!! They have a great balance of carbs, fats and proteins. Oh, and the fact that they are made from whole, all natural, organic ingredients is an added bonus!!

Another favorite of mine but it is a little higher in fat is:
I like it because it is a darned good substitute for a candy bar without as much guilt!!

If you sprinkle some protein powder on a candy bar it's cheaper and the same thing LOL.

Here is what I eat, not a glorified candy bar but nutrition wise much better. I freeze them and grab one on the go.

I apoligize for not reading through 64 pages of posts but is anybody doing the INSANITY workout dvds? I'm in week two and boy, it's a great workout (this is coming from an active duty Marine)!!
This workout is really breaking me off and I'm feeling myself get better as each day goes by. I don't know if it's psychosematic but I feel great just knowing I'm getting slain everyday and working to be more like my Camaro and not have a spare tire.

There are a handful here using insanity and p90x and it seems as it kicks everyones butts and all who stick with it get a great workout. I myself am a little more traditional with weights and cardio.

I tried going with that (weights and cardio), there are a lot of guys in my unit that are always in the gym, but for some reason I am unable to stick with going to the gym. It's much easier to do these work-outs in my back room and not have to worry about being stared at by the other gym peoples lol.

The only other tradional work-out I do is run, because...well Marines run a lot as a unit so I do it just to make sure I stay up.

I completely understand. Going to a gym for workouts would probably put a dampner on it for me, fortunately I have a home gym. I've thought about trying insanity or p90x instead of cardio which I realy hate but those programs and weight training don't mix.

They sound delicious!!! But, to my dismay, I will not have an oven at my disposal for the next 7 months. :( Maybe I can coax my friends/family into making them and sending them to me!

That one sounds good and I love that is is much lower in calories and carbs. Sounds like a good one to have on my non-cardio days. I will have to try it!

Quote of the Day!! Changing it up a bit, these are lyrics from a song that really helps motivate me...especially when I am training for a marathon and feel like giving up at mile 15!!!!

"Sometimes you feel tired, feel weak, and when you feel weak, you feel like you wanna just give up. But you gotta search within you, you gotta find that inner strength and just pull that sh!t out of you and get that motivation to not give up and not be a quitter, no matter how bad you wanna just fall flat on your face and collapse."

~ Eminem, "Till I Collapse"
