A few of the top Ford sites are calling for a name change for the GT500. It all depends on the Shelby/Ford contract, either way it will be an SVT vehicle.

As far as I know, the Boss is only a two year run as of right now. It may be always available in the catalog or they might go back to the FR500. It all depends on Grand Am and the rules they come up with.

Yeah maybe,

I did some looking around and found some minor info on the Boss 5.8. I had to look at the Aussie sites. It is a Coyote block with an increased deck height and the connecting rods resemble the 5.4's. I heard some one talk about the bore size being increase slightly to bring the bore and stroke to a square. (more of a square anyway)

The engine is actually just as old as the Coyote.

Disregard, the Boss 5.8 is completely different than the Coyote Long Stroke... I need the Coyote Long Stroke specs.

I didn't realize you could be banned from certain sections. I thought it was all or nothing. Interesting.

Hey Pill, hope you're recovery from the surgery is quick. Looks like you're taking advantage of the pain relief...

I'm ok for now, I have to go in everyday for injections. This isn't a permanent fix but it does improve the quality of life... Its hard to go out for drives though when I'm 3 sheets to the wind.

Hey man, best of luck and a speedy recovery! We may disagree about cars, but I wish you the very best in your future health.

it must be wrong to have a higher frequency of posts. i very rarely disagree with things here without being backed by facts. same could be said about the Pill.

They just get tired of hearing about weight, just as we get tired of hearing about the solid rear axle. I actually logged out to check my ZL1 post to see if I was cursing, being disrespectful and such and alot of my ZL1 post have "weight concerns" in them. It's a touchy subject with 5th gen owners but a subject that shouldn't be ignored. My figures are from simple math and I usually skim other forums to see if others are drawing the same conclusions.

But this is a battle, don't ride a war horse and get defensive when arrows are lobbed your way.

I have the sub frame brace-work diagram that I think the ZL1 will be using from the convertible. If the ZL1 uses this series of connectors, the chassis will be extremely solid which will give the Boss/GT500 a run for their money. Give me a second to add some touches to the diagram.

To all,
Thanks for the concerns about the medical situation, I should be getting the cath removed tomorrow after my injections.

The Camaro convertible was able to actually increase chassis rigidity without changing any struts, bushings or changing the spring rate from the Camaro coupe. GM added a series of braces underneath the car along with the strut tower brace. The additional body support is:

Strut tower brace (under the hood)
Transmission support reinforcement brace (Green)
Underbody tunnel "X" brace (Yellow, not sure if it made production)
Front and rear underbody “V” braces (Red)

The entire underbody of the convertible has been tied together.

After watching the Motor Trend video, it was said that the ZL1 would use chassis bracing and because these pieces are already being produced/used in the Camaro lineup, I would think that these will be the exact same braces (maybe beefier even).

Anyway, here is the diagram (at the bottom) and some pictures from Vert owners. I do not see the "X" brace in the live photo's, maybe the large transmission brace was used instead of the "X" brace to clean up the belly.

Transmission support reinforcement brace

Rear "V" brace

Front "V" brace

A link to the Vert's braces: http://www.camaro5.com/forums/showthread.php?t=134218

There was additional support added to the A-pillars, an inner reinforcement bracket in the windshield header, a reinforced front hinge pillar and reinforcements inside the rockers. This was done to improve noise and vibration and contribute to the elimination of cowl/steering wheel shake. I don't know those improvements would be useful or not.

I think the large transmission tunnel brace would be more effective than an "X" brace, not sure though. The underbody bracing resembles a race car sub-frame or an aftermarket job. If the braces are enough to handle the convertibles weight, then the size of the braces shouldn't have to be altered. If the "X" brace was used, this chassis would be tired all the way back.

Reviewers notice a difference in the strut tower brace alone, just think what all these braces could do.

Exactly. Nothing wrong with having choices.... a stripped down road-course car or a high content, high HP beast. Why have to compromise into a car that is good at neither....
