I was sold on the Camaro for sure. After reading that article I think I'll go with the Camaro.

Surprised me, for sure. I wonder what the numbers on the 2010 GT500 are going to look like if the GT has improved that much?

I don't know. 540 HP / 510 PFT is pretty badass but still no IRS. Starting at 45k+ you would think the rear suspension would get a makeover.

Thats suprisingly good for a stang. However it leaves no question as to the dominance of the SS.
Its really too bad Ford value's drag times over ride quality. "For spirited motoring, the track-tuned suspension is a welcome cohort. For cruising, though, its busy nature, certainly over uneven pavement, can grow tiresome."

A tick over 13.0 sec. and you're through the quarter-mile. It's a rush, of course, but not overly dramatic. Try the same thing with this pair's predecessors of 1970 or so and you'll find yourself in a bit of a wrestling match. Ain't progress wonderful? Maybe yes, and maybe sometimes it's fun to wrestle."

And you think Drag capabilities have a higher relevance to the general public than ride quality? Seriously? How many people do you think would appreciate a higher ride quality? compare that to the amount of people who would ever seriously track the car, and you have the reason as to why this topic is not worth debating.

Based on the data we currently have available regarding the Camaro SS, the 2009 Mustang GT and the 2010 Mustang GT, it is quite easy to see that the Mustang has, indeed, narrowed the gap between the two cars. I never said it had closed the gap. As for the percentage of people who would consider ride quality as a major factor in choosing between the Camaro and the Mustang, I would say that it is very small. Roughly the same percentage of buyers who really care if a vehice has an IRS or a SRA, as long as the prospective owner enjoys the overall feel of the car, IMHO. Here is what a recent poll by Consumer Report's showed as the factors that matter most in their car buying decision, listed in order from most important to least important: 1 - Reliability / Dependability 2 – Exterior Styling 3 - Price / Cost to Buy 4 - Interior Comfort 5 - Value for the Money 6 - Fun to Drive 7 - Manufacturer’s Reputation 8 - Quality of Workmanship 9 - Engine Performance 10 - Road-holding / Handling 11 - Fuel Economy 12 - Storage & Cargo Capacity 13 - Ride Quality on Highway 14 - Durability / Long Lasting 15 - Safety Features 16 - Future Trade-In / Resale 17 - Length of Warranty 18 - Rebate / Incentive 19 - Discount / Value Package 20 - Environmentally Friendly Vehicle Last edited by garagelogic; 02-02-2009 at 08:34 PM. |

Garage is right, Ford knows their demographic and they want the solid axle. Though it may not be the best for handleing, it is the best for toughness, mechanical simplicity, and cost over the irs. Its gonna be fun watching and seeing just how much abuse the halfshafts on the irs SS can take.

If anyone's ever driven a 350Z vs. a Mustang GT, the 350Z's ride is "brutal" in comparison. Has nothing to do with IRS vs. solid... it's just the way Nissan has tuned the car. As a SERIOUS sports car. Of course, heavier cars tend to ride better, too.... ![]() I applaud Ford for offering the more performance handling oriented buyers an option with the "Track Pack" on the 2010 car. It will be very interesting to see how GM decides to tune the various Camaro models relative to competitors like the Challenger and the Mustang. |
