According to most of the sites that ive gone to they have not met all the newest safety standards. Most of them yes but not all. Some of the requried equipment is missing. So there will be some weight there. I agree with Dragon most of the weight will be coming from the added drivetrain. 6 speed and the new engine are going to be the largest weight adder. Along with the beefed up everything else that will have to take the new power. I say it wil be lighter than the Camaro but not by much 100lbs at most. I know the "coyote" is an all new engine but it is based off the 5.4 motor. The heads are not all new they are the same 3valves they have been using on their mod motors for some time now. They have been worked over for better flow. Take it for what its worth like I said it came from the internet on a website much like ours here that do have people in the know.

No DCT for the Mustang in the near future, likely not before the redesign in 2014. 2011 will be more or less like the 2010 with different engines and other upgrades to go along with it. Mustang's chassis wont need any beefing up to handle 400hp, they already strengthened the chassis to handle the power and torque of the GT500 for the 2007MY and hae apparently strengthened it again fopr the 2010. Cylinder heads are four valve units.
The basis for the new Coyote V8 is a destroked and bored out 5.4L with a shorter deck, but the engine is so vastly different that it is effectively all new. It isn't as radical a change as we saw when Chevy went from the LT1 to the LS1, but it is more involved than the difference between the old 350ci V8's of the 70's and 80's and the LT1. |

Ill take this as the 'as of right now' kind of accurate speculation. Like Ive said before, i don't think the Stang will get a DCT because quite honestly i don't think Ford can build one that they can insure, that will be capable of hold the amount of power produced by the new engines.

A tick over 13.0 sec. and you're through the quarter-mile. It's a rush, of course, but not overly dramatic. Try the same thing with this pair's predecessors of 1970 or so and you'll find yourself in a bit of a wrestling match. Ain't progress wonderful? Maybe yes, and maybe sometimes it's fun to wrestle."

Put simply, if there are any plans for a rwd DCT of any sort before 2014 they are a very well kept secret. 2014 and beyond, absolutely nothing specific that would indicate the same and only vague indications that the DCT program will expand to suggest something like this might happen. I don't yet know enough about the 2014....and more than likely neither does Ford at this point......to tell you for certain that this isn't in the works. What do I think? Personally, I don't think Ford has a DCT in the works for rwd of any kind right now, and I doubt they have any future plans for the same. Last edited by syr74; 01-27-2009 at 03:05 PM. |

Regarding the 5.0L V8 per VersaTech from Blue Oval News forums......
Quote:
1:The Coyota program started out as a destroked and bored 5.4L which was changed so radically from that starting point Ford essentially considers it a new engine family. This may be the first good indication we have of just how revised it is.....looks possible that absolutely nothing is carryover here meaning that it shares nothing with the old Mod motors. 2: This guy is the first I have seen claim that the motor is lighter than the old Mod engines were. Given the pics of the engine bay this isn't a great stretch, since in terms of overall width and heaight this engine seems to be smaller than the old 4.6L DOHC Mod motor was and not much wider than the 4.6L 3-valve in the Mustang right now. Assuming he is correct, we still have the question of which Mod motor it is lighter than. The 4.6L SOHC 3-valve unit used now? Or the older, but more technically similar 4.6L DOHC unit? 3: Power numbers are starting to flesh out. Torque in particular really seems to be getting a boost of late in the rumor mill. |
