Mustang TracKey

This does seem like a pretty neat idea. I'd love to have like a 100 hp key for when I leave the car at a shop or something.

Ford adds race-ready TracKey to Mustang Boss 302, leaves no doubt about who's in charge
By Tim Stevens posted Nov 12th 2010 10:01AM

The use of a second key to unlock extra potential in a vehicle isn't exactly new: Bugatti's mind-blowing Veyron has a special tumbler-tickler that will let it hit 253mph; the Segway PT offers different fobs for different speeds. But such high-tech foppery on a Mustang? Yes, Ford continues to impress as the domestic marque with the techiest toys, announcing that buyers of next year's Boss 302 can purchase an optional TracKey package, shown after the break. Take the standard black key and you'll have a rip-roaring, 444hp monster. Take the red key, though, and you'll see how fast that pony can run down the rabbit hole. The car detects a different RFID chip in the fob and loads a secondary, track-specific engine tune, tweaking 200 ECM parameters to boost everything from throttle response to engine braking. It'll turn a semi-civilized muscle car into a completely track-ready beast, including launch control. When it's time for a more leisurely cruise users can just switch back to the black key, return to daily driver status, and leave Wonderland -- for a little while, at least.

The fact is this Boss 302 has some serious stuff in it to handle great not to mention the cool mapping to be unlocked by a key! I wasn't trying to underestimate the GT500 at all.
agreed, a 2011 gt500 is my DD...

the car has a hard time putting down all 550hp with the suspension that comes from the factory (i even have the svt package).

slightly wider tires wont make the difference when i put down 50' of rubber ripping from 1st to 2nd if i want to.

it takes a very tempered foot and knowing how much to push in on the acceleration with a car like that.

now the boss, with 100+ less hp and slightly less weight (400lbs)... it should be much easier to keep the tires planted and your track time low.

as much as i love my gt500, and would never look back to the SS i owned for a year if it didn't come with a supercharger from factory (z-28!); the boss is on my list of test drives as soon as i find one in southern california (hopefully at my dealer).

Just like the valet key that chevy had with the original 32 valve ZR1 from the 90's.

i agree the leguna seca is awesome. but not a very comfortable driver it is strictly meant for track nevermind weekend warrior. it def could not be a daily driver i know that much. lol the regular Boss 302 seems good enough to me. Very interested to see a Yellow Blaze Boss 302 with Black Stripes.

Cool idea but I guarantee guys will be using the track key on the street. As long as the car runs, dudes will use it, even if the car is barely streetable.

The regular key would be the spare or the wife's key. I wouldn't use anything other than the Track Key.

I LOVE that button. My children LOVE that button. Pressing it makes the car an absolute animal.
Shifts are a blink. The throttles are like a hairtrigger Glock. The exhaust opens up, the intakes scream, the suspension lowers and stiffens, the dif can be locked, the seat hugs you tight and goes to 'active mode' (if equipped) and the whole car literally becomes NUCLEAR. If you get a chance...drive one.
