The only thing that will fix that is wet sanding with a sanding block and buffing. Problem is those dimples appear to be deeper than the clear coat, in which case it will have to be wet sanded, clear coated, wet sanded again then buffed.

All black domestics show peel. Ford shows it more. They put all their money into a fantastic engine, skimped on paint.

Mine is pretty bad, the dark colors really show it the most. If I decide to keep the car long term I plan on having it wet sanded.

I thought everyone knew that this was the new ultra metallic!
Seriously though my Summit white has mucho peel. And when you notice it on White you know it's gotta be bad. This paint sucks period.Just have to look at the positive aspects of the car.GM should address this with out a doubt, sooner than later.

What do you suggest GM should do to address this problem?

How about improve the painting process? I heard this is exactly what they're going to do. Something about using Cadillac's paint system on the line? Someone with more knowledge could probably give more details.

That would be awesome, but remember muscle cars (Camaro, Mustang and Challenger) start at $23K-$25K. Cadillacs start at $40K+ so some of that increase is superior paint finish that a wealthier person would desire.

Even the $50K Shelby 500GT has crap paint (built on same assembly line as $23K Mustang (?) ). It could simply come down to the number of clear coat layers or thicker layer. The more layers, the less orange peel. Idk

+1

All factory paint will have orange peel to some degree. Even my wife's MBZ has noticeable orange peel. Unless the assembly line color sanded each vehicle (which would be next to impossible in heavy production) - there's going to be some amount of orange peel. A no peel paint job is a $10K+ show car level paint job. That's the difference between an OK to even a good factory paint job and a professional show car paint job.

I talked with a local paint/body shop that does many show cars and high-end exotics. He claimed that many factories design in orange peel to some degree in order to hide imperfections in the sheet metal and mis-alignment, and odd transitions between body surfaces.

I notice orange peel in my rally yellow paint all of the time, but it doesn't really bother me. I really doubt anyone else would see it though, since I'm the only person that is constantly inspecting my car. :P
