I would rather the mustang be the "halo" car as I don't plan to spend the kind of money it takes to get into a ZR1 or other comparable vehicle. |

This has gotten idiotic. Nissan is building a supercar. So is Chevy. They are street cars that are competitive at the highest level and this nitpicking back and forth is as retarded as arguing about the back seats of that infiniti earlier. Neither car is a race car. Both marques race and that input goes into their cars. Some trannys have grenaded, but it's not like you touch the gas and the car blows up.
Nissan has won the 24 hours of Le Mans before in their class but there were rules changes in the 90s that worked against their engine layout. They won with a twin turbo v6 btw. Nissan dominated SCCA racing for a long time and are still a favorite in SCCA. So you guys can make stuff up all you want, but at the end of the day these two cars are pretty damn equal in performance and the win would likely go to the better driver. You know it, some of you are just too obstinate to admit it. And before you tell me that I'm some sort of Nissan lover racing to intervene on my beloved marques behalf- I don't give a rat's ass about the GT-R. I just love logic and I know if I had a ZR1 I'd still need to treat the GT-R pitted against me with respect or risk embarassment.

Who didn't see this coming?? The GT-R is an AWD car that is tuned specifically for such a run. It utilizes a great deal of the same techniques in engineering that the 911 does... which would ultimately make it a better hander in the limits than a RWD biased car.. not to mention it should have very strong sprint times due to a much more controlled and spin spree take-off.
That being said.. I'll keep my Vette... or buy a Z06 or ZR1.. and still run as fast while actually looking like I have taste when it comes to automotive styling. That Nissan is one of the ugliest effin cars since the Aztek. Being eager to drive that trash would be no different than being eager to go bare-back in Courtney Love. |

![]() That may be the quote of the year in my book. Valid point on all counts as well.

Fact: The car did NOT perform as it was billed without using the Launch Control Feature - a feature much touted by Nissan that turned 'anyman Joe Racer' into a Porsche 911 Turbo killer for $85k - Correct? Fact: Using the Launch Control Feature caused the GT-R to Grenade the transmission, thereby making it an $85,000 paperweight. Fact: That voided your warranty. Fact: MANY GT-R owners (notice I did not say drivers) are now suing Nissan as the car did not perform as billed due to the fact that you cannot obtain the stated performance without using the Launch Control - thereby they are victims of false advertising...and Nissan walked away from the owners when the cars exploded...saying they were abusing the GT-R when using the Launch Control - a feature you HAVE to use to obtain the 0-60 times Nissan claimed. You see why the car is an easy target here? Yes, they are reprogramming the car and reworking things. They have to. The cars break when used in their current programming. This is the reason I do not respect the GT-R like I do the other cars in the class in pretends to belong in. The 911, Corvette, Ferraris...they deserve to be called supercars. The Nissan, while a great performer, has not yet earned that title in my opinion. And do not get me wrong - I think the previous Skylines are absolute awesome monsters. This is not the case with the GT-R in it's current state. It has something to prove.

FYI- GM's warranty on the Vette is specifically voided if you race it, so that argument is not valid. In fact, I wasn't even looking specifically for examples, but there are quite a few examples of Corvette's requiring 14000-20000k in repairs due to racing. It's all anecdotal and crap happens when you're trashing cars, so the tranny is a straw man argument. Road track racing isn't where the tranny grenaded either- it grenaded in drag racing but your comparing road racing pedigrees. Plus it's supposedly been fixed. So the only thing I get out of this thread is that: the GT-R is ugly (which I buy), or that everything Japanese sucks-no matter how good it is- it still sucks, cuz it ain't 'Merican.

Look at my sig and you will see that I am not a 'Merican only' supporter. I would respect the GT-R if it lived up to the hype without exploding. Yeah, they are fixing it for 2012 - too late for the cars that already blew up without warranty. The C6-R is based on the ZR1...a car which is based on the ZO6...so you are splitting hairs there. GM denies claims for abuse if a car is modified. (going to get flamed here, I know it) Nissan uses GPS and the car's black box to determine WHERE the car broke and what systems were engaged at the time of the failure. AND 99.999% of those claims have been denied and customers have had to fix the GT-R out of pocket. That sucks. Porsche does not do that. Ferrari does not do that...and to my knowledge, GM does not do that.

I just found a few stories with a simple search about GM warranties on Corvettes where a warranty was denied for a guy with 17k miles who's motor died at Watkins Glen and another who had a Z06 who had the computer make a mistake and blew the engine by running it to lean who got denied for racing with a 20k bill. There were others too but I didn't read on. If the dealer is fixing GM cars its because the owner chose not to be forthcoming about how it died. I'd expect that GPS will increase in usage and the GT-R just got there first. Anyway- I've said my piece. Have fun.
