Godzilla Matches the ZR1 Ring time 7:20 for 2012

Looks like GM needs to back to the drawing board
Quote:

An overnight spec-drop from the Land of the Rising Sun confirms the 2012 Nissan GT-R is the Car of the Rising Power with a 45 horsepower bump, which is enough to drop the Nurbürgring time to a Corvette ZR1-confounding 7:20. The new 2012 GT-R is now more than just slightly revised aerodynamics. According to NAGTROC, the 2012 model adds more power through added boost, larger exhaust piping, modified valve timing, and a few other tweaks.

he new GT-R now makes 530 hp at 6,400 RPM and peak torque of 450 lb-ft from 3,200-6,000 RPM. They've also attempted to preempt any jokes by mentioning there's an upgrade to the transmission programming as well. Not surprisingly, they've extended the number of editions to six: Club Track (racing-only), EGOIST (super customized), Pure Edition, Black Edition, Premium Edition, and SpecV.

the Vette enjoys success at le mans and at the dealership while the GTR enjoys neither.

isn't this conversation in another thread?

I thought we were in one of the worst sales years ever for the Vette?

And the situation has arguably gotten even worse since January.

The Le Mans argument I can see, but the dealership angle is stretching it a bit right now.

So, GM needs to go back to the drawing board because Nissan has just matched the ZR1 time on the 'ring? Um, no.

GM did it with a Supercharged Pushrod V8 driving the rear wheels through a 6-speed standard transmission.

Nissan had to do it with AWD, Twin turbo dual overhead cam V6 with so many nanny's involved that the car drives itself or your warranty is voided. Yeah. GM Better sweat the details on this one. Oh, and have you seen the transmission in the Nissan?

They pull the pin when you take delivery.

I'm sure the Vette outsells the GTR even with slumping sales.

It's pretty much a general consensus that the ZR1 is a better car, we've had this conversation before on this forum.

It was concluded that the ZR1 has equal/greater performance with higher reliability and more driver interaction.

I would also venture to say that the Vette has a higher performance ceiling and yeilds greater power when the modifications start.

Maybe if Nissan decided to endurance race the GTR they can figure out how to make them reliable

The transmission debacle, or more accurately Nissan's answer to that debacle, is the trump card here. Effectively Nissan puts a feature in a car purposefully making this feature a readily/easily accessible item, and then tells the owners that if you actually use that feature they will void your warranty?

Frankly I still can't believe that they legally got away with it.

Probably, but 'success at the dealership' is not something the Corvette has right now no matter how much better it might fare than the GT-R.

I don't have a dog in that fight, I'm not a fan of either at their price points for different reasons.

I think the GT-R's issues are going to require a lot more than endurance racing if Nissan wants to fix that cars 'problems'.
