It will be an "offroad" type upgrade meaning that they could not include the tune/key from the factory in any way shape or form.

The only thing is what if someday you have to buy that race key (as an aftermarket option)? and they charge you $4000 for it?

Ford is constantly ahead of GM in performance options. You can order a Mustang with optional handling package and better gear ratios, and note that every Mustang in a Mustang/Camaro comparison has those options. Would I have ordered those things on my Camaro if I could? HELL YES! warranty and rolled into financing, no brainer.

Ford racing also offers a ton of aftermarket stuff, and it's quality stuff not watered down corporate bling that really makes your car faster/handle better.

GM's trying to catch up to the gt500 with the z28 and I hope they do it, but why are they happy trying to just catch up?
Ford does make some nice cars. I like the mustang and the SHO, but I like my camaro more.

You will have to purchase this key after the sale of the Boss 302. No word on price yet. If I had to make an educated guess I would say it is a $400-600 option. As the price of the tune for the GT from Ford is in that range, and that is basically what you are buying with the key.

Really awesome it comes with a track day pass also.

I would imagine the reason they don't have a switch is because the car may need to be OFF before the changes can be made. Also, even in 'normal' mode this thing is still going to haul ass and give a stock Camaro a run for it's money. Track mode is just taking out all those little things street cars use to make the ride comfy, enjoyable, and not drain the gas so quickly.

I think it's a pretty cool idea, kudos to Ford for going with it.

This is just an educated guess? But I'm pretty sure it will beat a stock Camaro rather than give it a run for it's money, considering the standard GT 5.0 already beats the SS in most tests. Just saying. And it is a great idea and I agree with you to give Ford kudos for offering such a thing. It would be nice if GM could at least give us some gearing options on the Camaro first, like Ford does with the Mustang, and than try to tackle this idea of different keys or options for the mapping!

Except that its completely different. All Competitive mode does is dial back the traction control and enable launch control (has nothing to do with the suspension, there are no electronic controls in the Camaro suspension). This is a completely different engine mapping equivalent to an extremely aggressive tune.

Yup and they're just scratching the tip of what these new 5.0's are going to be able to do down the road.
But I still love my 5.4.

I enjoy the competition amongs the big three, heck it keeps them on their toes to improve and each try and not be outdone by the other.

Oh, yes you're probably right, I haven't been keeping up on the Mustang side of things lately.

Great times we live in for car nuts!! I remember how bad things were in the late 1970's with even Corvettes having well under 200 HP. I never thought I'd see a day when factory stock cars would be pushing 300 HP again let alone 400 and 500+ HP monsters. I love it!!!! Enjoy it while it lasts, whatever your flavor may be.

Because the redkey tune probably doesn't have to abide by emissions standards. . . The boss gets a LOT of engine work. With the red key tune, I wouldn't be surprised to see some really impressive performance.

No denying the power a twin turbo set up can make. I just don't like them on domestic performance cars and I would probably pass on a factory turbo car. I'm curious to see what the future has in store for the 50th Anniversary Mustang in 2014.

The thing that sets this apart from anything I've seen before, is the PCM has two tunes built in. Kind of like a motherboard that has a dual bios, and can boot to either one; one for day to day tasks, and one for max performance.

It makes sense to use a key, because the computer needs to be rebooted to change tunes. It gives you the same thing you would get if you used a flash tuner, but without the need to re-flash the PCM every time you want to change the tune.
