and about the homeowner saying they will pay anything right then and there...well if the fire department accepted that and tried to put out the fire, then everyone else that did/does pay may stop, and just pay IF their house catches on fire on the spot.

The rest....... So be it......... I couldn't make the decision, but I respect the person who can......... We may get a piece of news about this that explains things better. And may even change my mind. But face value so far. I side with the city. Reluctantly. |

Knowing the risks involved, I would be damn certain my $75 made it to the city for fire protection. heck, I would even drive it there and not trust it to the mail. Secondly, i would move to an area that has fire protectio and not ttrust it to some nearby city that isn't even in the same county. Once again, He CHOSE to live there, there are CONSEQUENCES to HIS CHOICE. |

Yup, and next time they need an equipment update or training check, they can pray for a fire to start.

![]() I damn sure made sure I covered my bases when I bought our house. We really liked this other house, Bonnie LOVED the huge ass kitchen, but it was farther out in the county and though it had a volunteer fire dept., we opted for our current house. We have a fire hydrant at the end of our driveway. I filled my pool with it last time.

And a 3 inch lead from that hydrant makes watering the lawn a tad bit easier too.

Still going....
Funny that this subject bring to light very similar sound that our Department has been battling for year now ( do More with Less). As I read through this, It almost brings me back to the same, damned if you do damned if you don't.. In one hand do nothing he didn't pay.. in the other save the house and pets (big unknown I was not on scene) and try to collect.. Both has their negative impacts one the FD did nothing and look like chumps in the media. the other set the precedence if you don't pay your house will still be saved and the FD has 0 funding in the end.. And if they try to collect by force the the look bad by being the Gov agency that is taking my house and the media rolls w/ it. In the end get educated get involved and go to your local FD and get informed. Scrappy said it best stop blaming other for you piss poor choices and own up to your F ing mistakes.. Lawyers are not the answer to your stupidity.

I know one thing that could have solved everything, but probably wasn't thought about at the time...tell the homeowner to pay the full amount from the time he moved in, until that point. I guess the fire department needs to start carrying a credit card machine. lol

On one hand I understand why they didn't but on the other this is america. If you were having a heart attack and hadn't paid your last bill for a flu shot yet should I let you die? No. It's F'd up. Not only that but I'm sure they are screwed with insurance due to not paying the fire charge. It could have just been an oversight and not an outright refusal. I was raised to protect those in need regardless of weather or not they deserve it. It's just wrong. Everyone is quick to point fingers till they are in that situation.
