He's a stupid idea. Why the hell hasn't anyone made a Big Rig hybrid? Let's face it a big torquey electric motor and diesel combo would save millions of gallons of diesel and since these things are designed to lug huge loads battery weight shouldn't be much of a factor.

That's true, but it does show that 75% of the oil isn't used to make diesel. And I believe you are accurate about the largest single user, but a major portion of that oil traditionally has been for the oil reserves which buys up a huge amount of oil- then lets it sit (traditionally). I'm not sure how that's playing out right now with Iraq and Afghanistan.

As far as the 69% to transportation in Brokinarrow's graph, the breakdown on that is: 61% gasoline fuel, 21% diesel fuel, 12% aviation fuel. Regular cars are the lion share of transportation.

V6sonoma, I don't know about a big rig yet but I think it's close. Cat is making a hybrid bulldozer now and Kenworth is making a medium duty hybrid.

I think the trailer would have to be full of battery, instead of freight to power the big rig hybrid......

Here's the medium duty hybrid, doesn't look like too much of an issue. There's a lot of wasted space in a heavy duty cab.

As valid and reasonably presented as the points are in this thread, it simply can't continue. I will neither post my agreement nor disagreement. I am obligated to close this thread due to current rules on politics.

Being someone with an expertise in political science, I do have some advice for everyone here. Contact your elected officials to express your opinions. You gave them jobs, so they owe it to you to do your bidding in office. They can only represent you when you ask them to do something.

Because this thread technically violates the no politics rule, this thread is closed. No infractions will be issued.
