i used to be one of them "if it ain't a V8, it ain't nothin" guys, but after i grew up a little & learned more about cars, i realized that it all depends on whet you want the car for. if you plan on racing or performance driving, you're much better off spending the extra money on the V8, but if all you care about is having a hot-looking car that's got some relative get-up-and-go, the V6 should be a perfectly viable option, especially for the people on a tighter budget. V6 technology has advanced so much over the past few years and can be given a little more

I had to guess at the city estimates, since there is no data that I have seen printed that gives us that information. I screwed up and transposed the V6/V8 data, I guess. Nice catch and thanks for the correction. |

Insurance is less with a V6.

You of all people should have some respect for F.I. so what's wrong with buying a V6 car, installing a turbo/s.c. and making it faster than its eight cylinder model? It's cheaper and just as fun.
As for being excited? Why not be excited that technology has improved so much that a V6 is making more horsepower than Mustang GT's of the past...and present. |

Well for some people, that's an important factor, especially younger drivers.

I was giving this some thought before answering;
I think the term "muscle car" will mean different things to different people. ![]() When I think "muscle car", I think GTO, BB Chevelle's, Camaro's, Nova's, and Vette's, 428 & 429 Mustangs, Hemi 'Cuda's, etc., etc.. ![]() I've heard SB Camaro's, Mustangs, and Mopars called both "muscle cars" and "pony cars". ![]() So I think its a matter of "personal perception." Todays young generation is just as fanatic about their V6's and 4 cylinder cars as we are about our "muscle cars". Therefore, I think there's alot to be excited about when it comes to the V6 Camaro. The V6 in the Camaro offers very impressive performance. For those among us who are younger, and have grown up driving V6 and 4 cylinder cars, which they often modify to increase performance, the V6 Camaro offers the same, if not more, performance, at a price most can afford. I'm not sure that I'd refer to the V6 Camaro as a "muscle car", but I will tell you that I'm VERY excited about it. And if it is referred to as a "muscle car", I have no problem with that. ![]() After all, when you look at early "muscle cars", the bottom line is, while appearing as "sleepers" from the outside, underneath, they offered a high level of performance. I think the V6 Camaro fills that bill nicely. |

Again, my comments were not directed at any one car or company. I just made an observation on how much things have changed in just the last 10-15 years and wonder how we got to that point as performance enthusiasts. I laugh when I hear folks talk about how good/powerful the exhaust note on a 4 or 6 cylinder sounds. If that kind of thing floats your boat, so be it. I'm just stating an opinion. I don't intend to nor do I expect for your opinion to change as a result of anything I have said.

you said.... and I quote...

not because of the motor size thats for sure. insurance is cheaper due to the lesser options than the 1ss and 2ss versions. there's a thread already going explaining that ins companies are caring less about engine size and more about the bells and whistles

I'm a little confused. Exactly what are you referencing with that quote? If it's in regards to how I feel about V6-powered pony/musclecars, I still stand by that statement. If you are referencing the Grand National, last time I checked, the Buick Regal was not considered a V6 version of a musclecar or a ponycar. Nice try though. Work on it a little more and get back with me.
