Im not a die hard mustang fan i wanted a new toy, it's that there was'nt much to choose from in 06.Matter of fact i had the 06 GTO for 24 hr test drive this car was very fast it would smoke the GT Mustang. But no matter how i looked at it the styling was ugly.It remind me of a cavalier with corvette running gear. And the Dodge Charger R/T was just too big.So the mustang just look better. 300 hp was not enough after test driving the GTO so i supercharged it and man what a differance that made plus the wine it makes at boost is a blast to drive.I'm looking forward to the new camaro but not the first year i'll wait and let thing cool down a bit.

Aslo aerodynamics really starts becoming a biiiiiig factor the further you go into tripple digit speeds.
First, let's all agree that the SS Camaro's, stock-for-stock, are going to beat the Mustang GT's 0-60, 1/4 mile, etc. I think we can all agree, given equal driving skill, that this is a foregone conclusion. I really don't understand why anyone would argue this.

However, I'm going to have to say that 1" of additional tire width is not going to make much of a difference at all on being able to launch the car. Maybe when you are talking about a drag radial or competiton tire, but not a street radial. My 2005 Mustang GT came with a 235/55-17 Pirelli P-Zero tire and even after switching to a wider 285/40-18 Pirelli tire, it 60ft'd pretty much the same.

How dare you bring a logical, well thought out scenario into this conversation! Don't you know that some people had the same opinion as you did with the GTO styling but went ahead and bought it simply because it was the only ponycar-esque offering from GM at the time?

I like the fact that the Camaro is NOT just about drag raceing, IT will corner, stop and handle great to. A stock Camaro will Kill a Stock Mustang GT on a Race track, Hell it will Beat the GT500 on a race track.

Really? How many production Camaro's have ever been on a racetrack, let alone ran against a GT500? None to my knowledge. Also, I'm sure you've been fed the same unfactual garbage that many others have about how poorly the GT500 handles and is "only good in a straight line". When you've actually driven one on a track, both the 1/4 mile and open track, then you can talk crap about them, until then, you need to stick to talking about things you actually know about rather than repeating what you heard/read somewhere else.

As I related once before, I have previously owned a '62 'vette, '69 SS396/375hp Chevelle, '70-1/2 Z/28 Camaro, '76 limited edition Trans Am, and a '64 Corvette coupe. However, I believe the C4 'vette styling and C3 and C4 Camaro styling to be ugly and unacceptable. Which is why I currently own a 2001 SVT Mustang Cobra (with IRS) and an '08 Shelby GT500 Mustang, which were both purchased new.

But I'm not on here to "preach" Mustang and denigrate the C5 Camaro. I'm here because I'm hoping to get a 2SS/RS some day (when funds and spouse permit). Mustang, Camaro and Challenger are all good American cars. The 315hp in the 2010 Mustang GT is enough power for non-enthusiasts, who will probably choose more based on lowest price and which styling they prefer. The 422hp Camaro SS should outperform all but the GT500 and should be the top choice among enthusiasts who are willing to consider all American brands.

I am sick of reading posts by Camaro fans slamming Mustangs and posts by Mustang fans criticizing the new Camaro. I have never owned any import car and I never will. Look at your own posts where it says what kind of car you drive. Any of you who currently own any import car model should forfeit the right to ever criticize anyone else on their choice of American vehicle.

God, can't we all just stop this civil war and... yanno, get along and round up some ricers with our Camaros/Mustangs/Challengers? I think that would be a lot more fun.

I have driven a gt500 on a track!!!! There is too much brake dive, The brake fade is unacceptable, the Body rolls like its wheels are on side ways in the corners. The car has simply too much weight on the nose etc... Hmmm Maybe the GT500 is not what it is crack up to be, I liked the 03 Cobras better. The 2008 G8 GXP already is a more balance car than the GT500 for track use, The G8 GXP will beat the gt500 on a track and the Camaro SS is will not perform less than the G8. But I can since some frustration in your post, no need to get heated, I am just telling the truth from my experiences.
It is embarising when you get passed up By 350z's through the corners and while Brakeing.

The track near College station in Texas, it was my cousin's car. My family are not really dragster, we like to go to the track sometimes. He traded in his 03 cobra for the GT500 which I think was a mistake. I am going to by the Camaro SS, It will be my fisrt performance car that I will take to the track and it will be mine, no need for me to drive My cousin or my dad's cars. But My little brother is a hardcore mustang Fan. If Ford come out with the 5.0 V8 in the mustang he will buy one in a heart beat.
