A Pontiac would be serviced by a local GM dealer. My best guess is that the letter would have a GM customer service phone number or a list of local dealers to schedule an appointment.

what you fail to understand is that toyota in this case is the FIRST party. GM is technically the "middle man"...... |

Toyota is better suited to diagnosing the problem. It doesn't really matter who owns the plant where they are assembled because its not an assembly issue. Toyota did the engineering work on it, they are responsible for anything that goes wrong with their systems. The problem isn't that the Pontiac dart is falling off, its in the Toyota engine. If it had a joint engine, or an Ecotec the situation would be much different. But it isn't. Toyota made the mistake, Toyota found the mistake, Toyota is creating the fix for the mistake. Suzuki probably relies on GM for any of their re-badged SUV's that came out of CAMI here in Ontario. Just like VW would depend on Chrysler Corp for anything that goes wrong with the Routan minivan. Or Toyota back to GM for any of the Cavaliers they had back in the late 90's. Your concerns might be valid if there were no recall issued on the Vibe. But there is a recall, issued by the very same company that is responsible for the problem ... just like in every other automotive recall I can think of. What you feel you are entitled to as a consumer is completely bassackwards to any logical thinking of the situation. You would rather have engineers who know next to nothing about the system attempt to debug it, rather than the ones who designed it in the first place. Given the choice, you should always pick the original designers first because they already know more about it than anyone else ever will. Trying to figure out someone else's work is a royal pain since there are a hundred ways to do anything, and you have to determine why they did what they did, and the consequences of those choices. On top of that, Toyota probably wouldn't be too forthcoming in providing the documentation so it would be a full ground up, reverse-engineering job based on analyzing the actual engine itself. Plus, in this situation there would be another team, in Japan, trying to diagnose the exact same problem, yet with more data and full knowledge of the systems involved. Relying on GM to figure out whats going on means that it could easily be an extra several months before they have a clear understanding, probably more than a year. And once they do figure out what went wrong, they probably aren't even allowed to provide the fix since it would infringe on Toyota's patented fix they had created while GM was still figuring out what happened. By trying to get GM to serve you better by having them diagnose and fix the problem themselves, you'd be in a far worse position than if you'd let Toyota do what they're obligated to do in the first place.

Toyota apparently has a list of vehicles currently under recall and a list of vehicles not under recall on their website.
To put things into perspective... TOYOTA VEHICLES AFFECTED BY RECENT RECALLS
TOYOTA VEHICLES NOT AFFECTED BY RECENT RECALLS
This company is a disaster.

To really put things into perspective:
GM BRANDS NO LONGER BEING MANUFACTURED in the past 5 years 1) OLDSMOBILE 2) PONTIAC 3) SATURN 4) HUMMER BRANDS GIVEN AWAY 1) SAAB 2) OPEL-oh yeah, that fell through...couldn't get a Russian and a Canadian to take 'em, then Fritz got scared... GM BRANDS THAT NEEDED DIVINE INTERVENTION 1) CHEVY- you ARE allowed to say that, aren't you? 2) BUICK- the "we wanna be LEXUS" Brand 3) CADILLAC- The "Standard" of whose world? 4) GMC- The next Division to go 'cause Chevy Dealers don't wanna stock 'em GM N/A AUTO MANUFACTURING DIVISIONS THAT SURVIVED ALL ON THEIR OWN -ah, what was the question again? BTW, how do you get a recall letter from a Brand that doesn't exist? Stick to Camaros, your supposed area of expertise, folks. Last I checked, there is NO Toyota competitor for the Camaro, so why the passion for their problems? GM's got enough of its own that y'all may help 'em with. And I don't recall anywhere near this amount of zeal, on Toyota-centered sites early last year, when GM was virtually D.O.A. For God's sake, Mustang threads are more positive, and better received, here. Possibly because it's now a better value. Like it was, continuously, for 46 years...uninterrupted. And Fenwick, for someone with a stated need to see the demise of Toyota (source: GMi, about 60 days ago...), do you think Ewanick EVER furthered his career by publicly castigating a competitor's product? Reuss? Has any auto exec. you "facebook" with? Has anyone you should respect as an auto-biz up-and-comer? Not hardly... As the school yard bully always finds out, callin' people names and throwin' stones don't make YOU one bit better...or the Brands you fanboy for... GM is STILL in deep doodoo, and calling down Toyota, or any other Brand for that matter, is NOT improving GM's plight one lil bit. Kinda like "negative campaigning" come election time. Sad, really. Got no merit? Pound the other guy... Last edited by LOWDOWN; 08-29-2010 at 07:58 PM. |

Toyota has a recall that effects most of their entire product line. You respond by throwing up a post that mentions brands that were sold or shut down. Comparing Apples to Oranges in my opinion! I would agree with a comparison if 3/4 of GM's lineup was under the umbrella of a recall, but it isnt. You really seem to be blindly GM hateful, and irrational arguments only speak to that. It's very simple to create all manner of argument-supporting "lists" or "facts", but that doesn't mean they have a proper place on a GM-supported site. Ask our friend Scott Settlemire if this competitor-bashing has improved GM's standing one lil bit...one iota. Not hardly. There are people, here, who have a stated mission to do all they can to undermine if not destroy Company A...or T, for that matter.
For those who think they are disseminating "facts", the least they could do is quote their "sources", for we know, as does every Kollege Kid in America, that plagerism is NOT TOLERATED at any level at any time... .................................................. .................................................. .................................................. ................ GMi, and poster "johnny smallblock" on 8/28/10 @ 9:39 PM... Toyota's website has includes a list of models involved in recent recalls and those that are not. Here are the lists: TOYOTA VEHICLES AFFECTED BY RECENT RECALLS Avalon Camry Corolla Highlander Matrix Prius RAV4 Sequoia Sienna Tacoma Tundra VENZA TOYOTA VEHICLES NOT AFFECTED BY RECENT RECALLS Yaris 4Runner FJ Cruiser Land Cruiser Solara "Wow" is pretty much all I can say. Toyota is an unmitigated disaster. .................................................. .................................................. .................................................. ................ Stick to "the truth according to GM", give credit where it's properly due, and you may have a future as a real journalist. It's when you deviate from "accepted script" that you fail...miserably... BTW, what was Pontiac's highest CSI-rated vehicle? Yup...the VIBE. |

Spare me. I don't need advice from trolls who have nothing better to do with their lives than try to start arguments on the Internet. You don't contribute anything to this site. Every single thread you post in becomes a disaster. You're the textbook definition of a troll.
