The GXP is a poor mans M5. Enough said.

Try the same thing with this pair's predecessors of 1970 or so and you'll find yourself in a bit of a wrestling match. Ain't progress wonderful? Maybe yes, and maybe sometimes it's fun to wrestle."

The main culprit seems to be a higher rear end gear ratio, compared to the Camaro SS.

That ratio difference will also narrow the gap between the two, created by a heavier G8.

Should be a close drag race, even though G8 GXP is heavier than Camaro SS.

I think so. I wonder if that's why Pontiac used the higher ratio...

That's true, the G8 GXP's down about 20hp.

Amazingly roomy car, the G8.

They say it may be the entire Pontiac line-up soon. The lone survivor.

well its a hell of a survivor.

If it was the same $$ as the Camaro id have a hard time not getting it due to the added space/practicality/comfort... but the nearly 9k difference makes it an easy win for the Camaro

Yep, I have been fighting the G8 GT. Employee pricing had a G8 GT w/ sports and premium packages for $29k.

But, I don't want AFM w/ that quiet exhaust, or the slushbox automatic. 361hp from the 6.0L L76 engine. So, GXP or nothing, and like you say, that's $40k.

I could still break-down and buy a GT though...Doubtful, maybe...

Too expensive, especially for what in my opinion is a very bland interior. No offense to the brand, but I doubt many people will justify spending 40k on a Pontiac, no matter how awesome it is. People will just gravitate towards BMW or Mercedes for a sports sedan in that price range.

A Sports sedan for 39k from Merc or BMW would be grade A. Crap.

think about it. What would you rather have, a top of the line model from a good brand, or a bottom of the line model of a pricier brand.

ya i had my own fling with the GT but i drove it and found the auto to be shockingly dissapointing.

The GXP looks like an amazing car, but to be honest i dont see 10k worth of differences betwen the GXP and the GT (not to say it isnt there, but if i dont see it the average customer sure as hell isnt going to see it)

Well, it's more about personal preference than brand name. Personally, for 40k there are other sedans I'd rather have.

In all honesty, when it comes to sedans I'd rather have a nicer interior than performance. The entry model C-class has a nicer interior/exterior than the G8. Of course, what is aesthetically attractive varies from person to person. If I want speed, I'll get a coupe.

I'm just being realistic. 40k isn't very cheap. I'm sure it'll appeal to some people, but I'm just not one of them.

i understand, but if we are really comparing WHAT sedan would you rather have for 39k?

The C has a very comparable interior/exterior to the GXP, while the Performance isnt even close.

However, because the G8 is the future of Pontiac, GM would be NUTS not to bring this to the table...

I'd chose a Mercedes. If I ever get a sedan, performance won't be as much of an issue as interior quality and comfort.
