Try owning a Black Vette with a raspy but not particularly loud exhaust. Yes it was nice when other enthusiasts in other performance cars would give me a rev and a wave, but otherwise everybody and their mother wanted to race me. I had my girlfriend in the car once we were all dressed up going out and some asshole kept dogging me in a Mercedes CLK... he just wouldn't get the clue. And every ricer on the road had to hammer it past me, so they could tell their buddies they outran a Vette.

hehe, i get this a lot too, when i go to the city. Small town is nice this way, you don't have to deal with these people, because they already know you.

Though there is one Orange Mustang in town that won't leave me alone...
darn neighbors!

Thank you for giving me an outlet for this cute little story...

I picked up my daughter (5 yrs old) from my wife, so she could do some Christmas shopping. I turn right on to a 3 lane street, on our way home. I look in my rearview and see a car (90's Mitsu 3000GT) coming up on me at a high rate of speed, blows my doors off pushing 90 at least (in a 40). Weaving in between cars so quick he damn near clips my front corner trying to get in front of me.

At this point I look back at my daughter and sigh. When we pull up to the next light, there he is. I roll down my window, he says "nice car"... I pull a little farther up, roll down the back window, and point to my daughter sitting in the back. He gets a weird look and shrugs. I finally lost it and said "put yourself at risk... you are an idiot. Put my daughter at risk, and I will hunt you down and kill you".

Needless to say it did not garner the reaction I was looking for. But it sure made me feel better.

You would be correct.

I am just having difficulty accepting that I was once that wreckless.

'nester7929', I know exactly how you feel.

There is a "resident a-hole", who lives in my town, and who spends his Saturdays and Sundays cruising the bypass, looking to race someone.

In attempting to catch and try to race me when I've had the SS out, I've seen him cut people off to catch up to me, make illegal "u-turns", blow red lights, etc.! I even passed his house once, witnessed him riding his lawnmower, and then shortly thereafter, saw him come flying up behind me in his car.

The sad thing is, the guy appears to be in his late 40's, had his wife in the car on one occassion, and actually has nice cars, which I'd like to see closer, but he's too much of an a-hole.

The best advice; IGNORE THEM!

When i was reading that, i kept getting the mental image of Napoleon Dynomite's Uncle in my head.

A tick over 13.0 sec. and you're through the quarter-mile. It's a rush, of course, but not overly dramatic. Try the same thing with this pair's predecessors of 1970 or so and you'll find yourself in a bit of a wrestling match. Ain't progress wonderful? Maybe yes, and maybe sometimes it's fun to wrestle."

Thats hilarious, what do people seriously think? I'm soooo boss with my 4-banger mazda 3 i just out-accelerated a z06?

I'll admit that I've sped up to a hot car such as a z06 in my cobalt, but just to get a better look (and drool), but not to blow by them, i know my place.

Not just the SS. Any Camaro will get people wanting to race. Most will just see an aggressively-styled new car, not knowing what's under the hood.

I won't have much trouble because of the roads I drive on, but maybe I'll carry a sign saying "I don't race" and display it for anyone who is annoying me.

I don't understand it either but one thing I know is my car was heavily modified and I could of taken most of them I'm pretty sure...since most people like this only have an exhasut and rims...intake too usually. Plus, most of these types didn't do the work either...they paid someone!

It's a fact of life with modified cars...can you even begin to imagine what it's going to be like with a Camaro SS!

I did all the work on my car and appreciated the labor that went in to it...so a street race was the last thing on my mind!! I took it the track if I wanted to race!! That another thing...very few people like this will go to the track because they know they don't have anything to show off...it's easier doing a flyby or trying to get you to race froma stop light in traffic! They never lose this way!

you put a coffee can on an accord it is still an accord. And now it sounds like shit....a Guy a work said he modified his car...thats not modified.......I have never modified a car........I want to.... ...but I know a diferent tail pipe is not it.

Racing is for the track - I would love to run my new camaro in a stock class at a track...after my warranty is up I have dragged modified and stock snowmobiles on closed tracks and that is a rush - I would love to race a car.

Damn I wish I knew more about these high performance cars...guess it is time to start reading and learning.

to those that can modify and can do it right
