+1

The blu-ray player could use some work. PS3 blu-ray isn't great, it's good but of course not compared to a stand alone player. Feels like I could break the ps3 controller in my hand compared to the 360 controller which is more comfortable

I have both plus 2 HD DVD players and a new Blu-ray player. Most people I ask prefer the XBOX 360 for games. They have a separate Blu-ray player. Some prefer the PS3 because it does both. I prefer having it all. Wii on my 118" Carada fixed screen is a blast when Bowling. Get an HD projector and a big fixed screen, THATS a real home theater, not a little 70" TV.

Only 118" , I have a 130" Screen in my Home Theater and I think the PS3 SUCKS and I would never buy one , I prefer North American brands and I only support them ,the XBOX Elite is superior anyways

I went with the PS3 becuase my tastes ran more towards movies than games...

FIRST - the whole wireless ps3 sucks argument - YOU PEOPLE ARE MENTAL I stream audio/video to my ps3 constantly over my wireless network and have NO problems. The problem that you people are running into is your net connections/bandwidth.

I use my pc as a media server and stream ALL TYPES OF MEDIA to my PS3 for use on my tv/stereo and its the best thing invented.. anime, porn, games, music, etc. all available with a few clicks on the ps3.

It will come down to what you want to use the console for.. if you want utility.. go with the PS3. If you want game selection and the best online selection/experience go Xbox 360...

Also the RRoD issue.. From a hardware guys perspective.. cold solder joints (the cuase of RRoD) that are caused by heat.. will happen eventually without heat, its a result of cheap manufacturing and quality control. Trust me I know this.. I get PAID to repair cold solder joints (among other component failures). The only reason i say this is because I absolutely despise people who say.. its the users/environments fault

^ I'm in agreement with Diarmadhi.

I chose my PS3 for the versatility. And PS3 games will continue to get better. I think Mindz said it, They haven't tapped into the Cell processors complete capabilities yet. And the newer PS3's have fixed the backwards compatibility issue. The only drawback to the dvd player is it currently doesn't up convert.... Verdict is still out on whether or not the Cell can do that through a software upgrade. I watch a ton of movies so the BluRay sealed the deal.

The biggest let down for the PS3 for me is. I'm still waiting for the full release of Gran Turismo... If you like racing sims.... There is none better IMO.

I don't think you will be disappointed either way.

streaming and downloading dont require constant connections. Playing most any game does....if you lose your connection to the server you lag, and then you lose. thats why wireless sucks. if that doesnt bother you then go for it. Also its not my internet connection since i download at 30mb/s or 30000kb/s

In actuality your wireless connection is between your device and your wireless router.. if your setup correctly you should have close to 100mb/sec unless you have more than 10 wireless devices on the network.. Your home network (anything your side of your cable/dsl modem) is fully capable of real time HD content transfer. If you have issues with a ps3 dropping out of games due to disconnects your network equipment is either not setup correctly or your equipment is poor quality.

Edit - Also if your that hardup about a hard wired connection... the ps3 has a network jack built in as well.

You might want to check out the Tom's Hardware forums too if you haven't already (tomshardware.com). Not to promote another forum- but they specialize in this stuff over there.

Personally I prefer the total XBox experience- especially now with netflix more than I enjoy the total PS3 experience. However they both have strengths. Most Dev's are saying that the PS3 is really hard to code for and that has shown up in several cross platform titles where the PS3 has had some extra glitches (Fallout 3 comes instantly to mind). Not enough to say you shouldn't get a PS3, but enough to know it's been an issue for some.

360 and I love it.

I have a few friends with PS3's...and I prefer the Xbox much more.
The whole red ring of death thing is rare with the new ones (or so I hear), and I've had mine for a year -- never happened yet.

To be quite honest, I also prefer the Xbox 360s controller, too...more comfortable.
