Based on the data, the 5.0 is probably a bit more efficient in regards to MPG than the LS3, but it is pretty much impossible to say how much, because the motors are used in different chassis' at different weights with different drivelines and different gearing. It could very well be that the Mustang's driveline is more efficient than the GM cars, making at least some of the difference. In the end though, I think they are pretty close in efficiency (referencing MPG).

DOHC motors are generally more fuel efficient. And lets not forget the LS3 is 6.2 L.... More displacement = more fuel....
I'm pretty impressed that with over a liter more displacement we are even close to the 5.0 in MPG...
