I'm curious, The LTZ is cheaper than the fully loaded Camry.. what gives ?
Malibu is a better car that's still burdened by people's perceptions about GM sedans as well as ideas about Toyota's vehicles, whether or not those ideas have any basis. What the Malibu has done is prove to Americans that GM can build a credible midsize sedan, now all we need are people willing to try it.

That said, Malibu still has some shortcomings that will luckily be addressed in the EpII model.

yes, but the "new" Sonata doesn't have anything other than a 4 banger. Thankfully the Malibu has a V6 option.

I don't get it. What's your point? Does it matter if it's a 4 cylinder or 6 cylinder? Are you really that concerned about speed in a family midsize sedan? Not to mention that there is a turbo 4 banger sonata due out later this year, with 274hp that could probably run circles around the malibu v6.
Back on topic though; Your point about xenophobia here is true, and your point about biases against american made cars is also true. It's going to take time for both to dissipate (if ever).

This statement is yet another example of Toyota's excellent marketing strategies!

It wasn't meant to be a blanket statement. Any time anyone does a test of what car has the most US parts and labor it should not even be in question that a domestic manufacturer leads the list every time.

If the big 3 wasn't making rolling piles of crap thru the 80's and 90's then they would have never seen the Camry and Accord take over like they did.

This I agree with, it is their own fault, but at this point they are on pretty even terms, but it is true habits and perceptions are hard to break.
