Mustang GT with 3.31 gear in 4th rolls across the 1320 mark at 5,940RPM @ 112. Very close to it's sweet spot. Camaro LS3 with a 3.45 in 4th rolls across the 1320 mark at 4,5300RPM @ 112. Not at all close to it's sweet spot. Now for those of us who have had a decent amount of experience running down the 1320 this is a very clear picture. To get a LS3 powered Camaro running at it's sweet spot in the 1320 @ 112 MPH you are looking at a 4.30. That would net you 5,646RPM. Granted when the 4.30 becomes available, you are more likely to see 115MPH stock LS3 runs @ ~5,800RPM. If one can get it to 6,000RPM by the end in 4th, that would be 119MPH. That is moving. Swing this back around to compare with a Mustang GT running a 3.31 gear and I think we know which car wins that race with comparable gearing.

exactly, thats the part he doesnt understand. The Mustang has better gearing, yes. But hes overestimating by about 10% and theres no way any car would gain 5mph from gearing. (hes suggesting 115mph traps) At most you gain 1mph for every 15%, but lots of times you dont gain much MPH at all.

Apparently the 2011 GT wakes up a lot when you raise the rev limiter and allow it to shift at even just 7krpm.
Being able to shift back into the power band is far more important than the car making peak power at 6.5k-6.6k rpm. |

Do the math. If you think I am overestimating then show it. Offer something constructive otherwise go post on the Mustang forums. I am sure they would love to have your "insight". ![]() This will be my last post on the subject. I laid it out for everyone to see. Choose what you may with it. |

LOL if you think adding a 4.30 gear is going to raise your trap speed by 9 mph.
5 mph is even stretching it. |

doubt it, check this out: http://www.carcraft.com/techarticles.../photo_03.html
115mph?? LOL youre just pulling numbers out of your butt. Notice trap speed didnt change that much. Gearing doesnt change trap speed THAT much and at most (from personal experience) 1mph for every 15% if youre lucky. heres another good article. http://www.carcraft.com/techarticles...rks/index.html |

I seriously doubt you gain 5 mph with the gear change also.
I didn't come close to gaining 5mph when I went from 3.08 gear to 4.10 in my old fox body. |
