I agree about the Pony cars or Vette scenario. I won't lie.. every day I struggle with the idea of should I buy a Camaro as a DD as my G6 is approaching 102K and looking more and more "girly" to me. I'm trying to justify in my head that having a car as slick as the Camaro... even in V6 form is ok for a car I would use primarily to get to work and deal with clients. The idea was always to have something humble. (think doctors driving Buicks instead of Cadillacs) I am also considering the Lacrosse, Regal and Malibu. The Malibu is the biggest competitor to the Camaro decision since the Lacrosse is... too "classy" and the Regal is not here yet.

As for the Z28's Price... I'm willing to bet that it will come in under the GT500's by at least $5K. Ford does not have a Corvette, thus they have a lil more leeway in charging more for a pony car, where as Chevy would have to push the price of the base Vette up over $50K. Currently it sits at $48,930 - $116,880. The GT500 comes in at $48,645 - $53,645, starting $300 less than a VETTE.

Certainly I am an advocate for Corvette's being in Porsche territory, perhaps with a $3K less difference for spit and giggles (with a new interior of course) as it is certainly, in every way now a car that performs and holds as much cache as the German sports car.

As for the reason why people have issues with my posts... Well U are a rarity.. as the majority of problems I have been getting are from Mustang owners.

I do think the GT-500 should put down better times and remember those guys at the magazines can`t drive worth crap. The GT-500 if driven properly is much faster. I`m a chevy guy and have seen what they can do w/ a set of drag radials. My Vette still covers them stock for stock at least the ones I`ve ran. I really don`t see the reason for comparing a GT-500 to an SS anyways, a true comparo will be a blown SS (z28) to a GT-500.

Still I`m waiting to see if a bolt-on 2011 GT can match my bolt-on time...

2010 Shelby GT500 Scorecard
Run 60-Foot 1/4-Mile/MPH
1. 1.852 11.855/117.66
2. 1.850 11.784/118.93
3. 1.825 11.805/117.36
4. 1.778 11.592/118.45
5. 1.91311.951/120.29*

The first 4 are on ET streets, the last one is on stock tires. The car was 100% stock. That's an absolute ass whooping on the camaro and the mustang GT. People just aren't going to hop into a 550hp mustang and cut good 60's their first try unless they have experience driving cars like it. The camaro shouldn't beat the gt500 to any speed if the driver isn't making major errors and if you launch properly, a gt500 will leave a camaro in a cloud of dust. When an ss traps anywhere near 120 in stock form, you come let us know.
Looks like my stock 08 Base z51 Vette beat Evan Smith`s quarter time on stock tires, my car was bonestock on stock tires too... He did get me by 1mph, but I beat him to the end of the track by .15...

ive never witnessed someone having to buy not to classy of a car before, but i completely understand. the camaro would probably be too IN YO FACE styling wise to even seriously consider.

i don't think corvettes are in porsche territory as of yet. when my dad was looking for his DD we both went out to test a C6 Z51 and a Cayman S. as much as it pained me, being a whole hearted american car guy, the cayman was better. unfortunately for Chevy it was for the same reason why i bought the 2010 gt over the SS, their driving "dynamics" are just not there yet. i am praying every day that they address this for the C7, i don't even care about the interior...just get that right.

Yeah still got em, they are supercars so they hook pretty decent. I will be going PS2`s though when they are worn out, thanks for the offer though.

I'm not surprised. The ls3 vette is definitely quicker than the gt500. You'll have to see what evan smith does with a '11 gt500 though

No offense.. but IMO a Z51 as a daily driver when compared to a Cayman S.. the Cayman winning is a no-brainer. the Z51 is as stiff as a Z06, but the handling is as good, if not better, than the Cayman. The place where the Cayman won in my runs with it compared to my Z51 was the ride and interior. It simply has a smoother ride and more "quality" interior than my Vette. The addition of Michelin PS2s changed that a lil tho... because the Run Flats were like riding on hard rubber with no air.

Anyone who believes the GT500 can only run a 12.8 is an idiot.

Tell it to my Rump.

No seriously... the Z06 technically has a harsher ride, but the Z51 is no Cadillac. It is DAMN stiff.
