AS for which would get the AXE VIPER or VETTE.. Chrysler stated a few months back they were considerin sellin off the VIPER. To a Specialty car comany. Something about the number built and not having to fall in to CAFE guidlines or something along those lines.AND To free up some cash.. So Who wants to Buy the VIPER and go into busines.. If I were in Chryslers Shoes I Would Sell It Off Too, Make More Money on it, Since you know Chevy would kill it off once they got their hands on it..

I don't think GM has the cash to do it, from all the news reports. They definiately have been talking vigorously, though. Chrysler leaders spotted in GM Ren Center, and many other confirmations.

The big hold-up is GM does not have the cash needed, and they are even thinking about asking our government for more cash to make it happen. Hopefully, the gov will just say no.

BTW: I'm a fellow GM ASEP Student - Grad. 1986.

I'd rather get rid of that stupid looking Caliber. No, wait, the Journey... Hang on, how 'bout giving the axe to the Nitro. Yeah, the Nitro... or...no, the new Avenger... or maybe the four door Charger, but it does have a Hemi... Hang on, why is Chrysler going under again?

I just read this update: GM wants billions more from taxpayers, so they can buy Chrysler.

WASHINGTON (AP) -- Beleaguered U.S. automakers are seeking federal help beyond the money available for them as part of a financial industry bailout and a loan package to fund more fuel-efficient cars, the White House said Tuesday.

White House spokeswoman Dana Perino said the auto industry has talked to the Bush administration about funding on a much broader scale than the two programs approved by Congress earlier this fall.

"No doubt that the automakers are big important companies, important to a lot of families and important to a lot of regions in this country," Perino said. "We are capable of competing at a level where these companies can succeed, they might just need a little help. And that's what Congress asked us to help provide them."

General Motors Corp., which is in talks about acquiring Chrysler LLC, is pursuing $5 billion to $10 billion in government aid, said an industry official, who declined to be identified because the discussions were private. GM officials declined comment.

GM has approached members of Congress and the administration about a number of ways that government funding could be used to help the company, including playing a part in a Chrysler deal, said a person briefed on the negotiations. The person asked not to be identified because no deal has been completed.

The requests have come as General Motors and Chrysler LLC are burning up cash because of an auto industry sales meltdown due to the U.S. economic downturn.

You know why congress has to approve this, betwen GM and all its suppliers, the US would lose over 1 million jobs if GM goes under. GM is looking at a merger to stabalize their operations, they see it as the best hope in these troubled (now there's an understatement) times.

Should be a loan. They don't need to get any money for keeps.

What money have they gotten for keeps?

The last $25 billion thing was a loan, too. It was already approved earlier in the year, but the actual $$$ was never allocated -- so GM persued the allocation of the money. They weren't given any handouts: It ALL has to be paid back.

Let's remember that some nations actually give their companies money for projects like the hybrid Prius. Don't begin to think that GM is getting off easy.

If this merger goes through, I don't think I can handle all the Chrysler tin cans showing up at our "all GM" shows.
