GM and Chrysler to merge?

Hope this isnt a repost but here it goes WTF this cant be true, DODGE

Here is a web site and many more i can post thats talking about it.

http://dealbook.blogs.nytimes.com/20...xplore-merger/

General Motors is in preliminary talks about a possible merger with Chrysler, a deal that could drastically remake the landscape of the auto industry by reducing the Big Three of Detroit automakers to the Big Two, The New York Times’s Bill Vlasic and Andrew Ross Sorkin reported late Friday.

http://www.businessweek.com/innovate...eneral_mo.html

My forecast that the cost-cutting strategy of the private equity Cerberus guys who bought Chrysler from Daimler Benz would fail is, unfortunately, turning out to be true. By hiring ex-Home Depot CEO Robert Nardelli, who’s speciality is efficiency, they embarked on a traditional business strategy of squeezing more out of existing operations at a time when soaring oil prices were undermining the sales of their gas-guzzling product. What was needed was an innovation strategy of growth that quickly generated electric, hybrid, flex-fuel and other models that better fit into a fast-changing market place.

This would be cool though,

If G.M., the nation’s largest automaker, combined operations with Chrysler, the smallest of Detroit’s Big Three, they would create an auto giant that would surpass Japan’s Toyota Motor Company, which recently has been battling G.M. for bragging rights as the world’s largest automaker

And woud rather GM get it than,

People close to the discussions said that if the prospective deal did not happen, Cerberus would probably look to Nissan and Renault.

Relax, GM would be acquiring Chrysler, not the other way around. Maybe GM will redesign the Charger to make it look the way God intended. Chrysler/Dodge has also been hurting in the alternative energy department, so maybe GM can help out there too.

This is a good thing.

Chrysler has the worst quality of all three and the interiors are always crap no matter how much money you spend... What a shame if this is true...

Chrysler is ok, even Ford would be ok... I just don't want to see them merge with Kia or Mitsubishi, or worse be bought by Toyota

Bob lutz came to GM from chrysler to increase GM's quality and has been a major driving force behind that. He could do the same for Chryler's line.

If GM bought Chrysler outright, I would be delighted. Chrysler and GM components should be kept apart. I definitely don't want to see any Chrysler engines in GM cars. I do think that GM could do well by purchasing Chrysler and pushing successful models.
