Take it to the track. They have on site EMS.

Highways, on the other hand...have my wife and kids. If you hit them because your dumb ass was racing, I'll even come after you. I do not represent anyone in this remark other than a pissed off husband and father of two.

We had an off duty officer get hit a while back because a Cobra was racing an RX7. Stang lost control into oncoming traffic hitting co-workers truck SMASHING in the entire front end. Officer broke his leg and was trapped in a burning vehicle. Luckily, bystanders ripped him out while putting out the fire.

Genius racer, for his stupid knee jerk reaction to want to race and be cool, put a good family man in the hospital w/a broken leg. Guess how much rehab he had to go through to get back into his profession...where he has to walk, run, jump things? Is that fair? Is that fair to his kids? ...who want to run and play with him?...who want to bike ride with him?

Use your head. Take it to the track.

BTW, driver of the Mustang (I believe) is in prison serving time for his actions. I'll try to find out more about that guy just so ya'll know what happens if you street race.

plus, if you DO take it to a track (which you'd better) -- you WILL be very quickly humbled in learning that your self-perceived "awesome driving skill" can easily be beaten. It will be. Deal with it.

This will easily negate your (aimed at no one in particular) attitude of "Yes, I do race/drive fast on the roads, but I know what I'm doing. I'm skilled. I've driven a XXX horsepower YYY car for years without a single incident"

Who cares. So, go there, be humble, learn, improve yourself.

That way, if you ever are presented with an emergency crash-avoidance scenario in the real world, on public roads, your improved skills could actually help save your life, and others.

And, you will also have the satisfaction of having more fun than you could ever imagine by competing in a safe, controlled environment when you do go to the track.

<off soapbox>

TAKE IT TO THE TRACK.

street racing is just stupid, IMO. i don't believe i will even be going more than 5 over the limit in my new camaro.

a few years back there were a few huge incidents with street racing on the highways. 2 big one i can think of... one involved a teacher driving to school in here van when she got hit by one of the racers. she died from the crash, the racer survived. the other crash, a racer hit an official city & county truck who was moving the road divider to add a ziplane for the morning rush hour traffic. the two C&C workers in the truck died and so did the racer and his buddy in the car. huge reason why i don't agree with street racing, not because it's illegal but because of the innocent who have their lives changed because of it

Most street racers are kids ages 16 - 21.. It is a shame that movie's like The FAST AND THE FURIOUS ARE ALLOWED TO ADVERTISE TO KIDS. It is a shame that parent's allow their kids to get 400 plus HP cars in the first place or worse, buy the car for them when they are 16 or 17. It should be a given if you are a parent to allow your kid to buy his/her own muscle car at a later time when they earn the money themselves and can afford it. If the kid has worked at a job which they got from their parents and make enough to afford a muscle car, you would hope the kid is responsible enough.. If you do what Hulk Hogan did with his son, you can see what happens to them, however he got off lucky.. I'm a firm believer that someones first car should be something big and slow until you get used to it..My first car was a hand-me-down Mercury Grand Marqi's nicknamed "The Tank". I drove that until I was 18 and purchased a V6 Mustang. It wasn't years later until I could afford a V8 Mustang on my own. Now I'm older and wiser and street racing is the last thing on my mind.. As a kid you believe you are invincible, and that is the main reason why it is a dangerous combination...

My Street racing days are OVER. I'll goose it a bit on the highway if I see another enthusiast, but thats as far as it goes.

I've spent the past 10 years as a volunteer fireman, and Ive cleaned up enough brains on the side of the road from these stupid organ donors to realize I DON'T want to end up that way, or risk anyone else.

I think there's a big difference between the stoplight races of American lore and what everyone here is referring to as street racing.

For a true stoplight race (so far as I'm concerned), it's nothing more than a test of acceleration to the approximate speed limit. You should never be blasting past other cars, weaving in and out of traffic, or more than 5-10mph over the speed limit. In fact, you shouldn't even be turning as this should only be done in front of a good straightaway. It is nothing but a quick burst of acceleration next to another high performance car that ends as quickly as it began. Frankly, as a muscle car enthusiast and someone who would love to see our roads return to how they were in the '60s, I'm a big fan of stoplight races. They're pretty safe, very limited and contained, and serve to put ricers in their proper place.

Actual street racing, on the other hand, would involve a lengthy run with the goal of either crossing a line before another car or beating another car's time. Clearly this sort of racing is extremely dangerous due to the innumerable independent variables and the risk of injuring innocent bystanders.

In short, acceleration tests at a stoplight I am okay with and will be partaking in with great regularity.

Legitimate street racing, on the other hand, is a big no-no.

I'll romp it to the limit (probably ~10 over just to keep up with traffic...).

But I WON'T be racing anyone...ever, unless it's at a track. And if some clown honks his horn at me up on the interstate, I'll just let him fly off all by his lonesome...now that I think about it, that might actually be more fun than winning.

No street racing for me. Tracktracktracktracktracktracktracktracktracktrack track!!

Last night, pulled up in middle lane between a late model GT on the left and a mid 70's Trans Am (455) on the right. I was in my Z06. I got them all revved up and when the light turned greeen I just sat back and watched..... Each of them was smart enough not to let it last more than 150-200 feet or so but it was fun to watch.

The last time I was foolish enough to participate in such an event, it cost me $240.00 cause I didn't see the police car right behind me...

Be careful out there guys and we should really save the racing for the track!

if i were to race i would keep true to this... track or speed limit.

In my county, you get pulled for doing 15mph over the speed limit you get a 1k fine. ouch.
