Only Mustang that can compete is the Shelby500GT or a Rouch both you can order at any Ford SVT dealer. But they are closer to $60,000 then you are getting close to Corvette price. Mustangs are cheap and you can buy a used one even cheaper and then build your own track car buying parts direct from Ford motor sports. So you can build a Mustang that will blow the doors off even a Vette (not a Z1 but a Vette in the same $60,000 price range) but at what cost? and only in the 1/4 mile in corners to get a ford that competes with the best Vette then you need a GT40
So price per performance Chevy wins no matter how much you want to spend. Sure thanks to Shelby you can get a ford that started out as a Mustang that goes as fast as a SS Camaro but is it still a Mustang or a Shelby? No mustang badges on it? You can of course buy a Ford motor sports FR500C or FR500GT4 but these are not street cars they are factory built race cars. But once you get the car home and before you run up against one on the street you have no idea what they have done to it. So you may pull up to what looks like a MustangGT with your new SS and get smoked light to light but like I said may no longer be a Stock GT many even get modified at the dealer with Ford motor sports parts. and although they started out as a GT they are really more like a Shelby500GT with a supercharger. The Ford dealer near me has one they modified at the dealer looks like a 2009 GT on the outside yet it has 550hp. Cost of the super charger update $7029.00 plus $3000 dealer install fee. They also updated the wheels tires, brakes ect. Total cost for a 2009 GT mustang after dealer mods $64,000 But for the diehard Ford Fan that hates getting beat by Vettes and Camaros I suppose they will pay it. It has been in their showroom for almost 2 years now. So maybe not? |

I will basically say this. To not start up anything on a Camaro site, but if you pay these numbers your not doing it right. Sure what you said about having Shelby do your Mustang GT is true, but you are now basically paying for Shelby to convert your car into a a Shelby edition car. So...yeah it would be a Shelby. A GT500 is a Gt500. Period. A Vette is a Vette is a Vette. Thats not a pony car, and it should smoke most car's on the street, INCLUDING a Camaro. Why would you buy a legally made race car for the street ? As for doing a S/C on a regular GT the cost is not that high. If you pay a dealer 3k to install for you, then come down to Miami, and I'll do it for 2k. You'll save 1k on install ! My point is that even most shops here will only charge about 800...including Ford, and that includes the dyno tuning. A S/C from a host of companies now will cost you less than 5k easy. My S/C which WAS 7k at one point, cost me 4.8k from JDM new. In another thread I had the cost breakdown for my car, (in car domain link)but basically I have 452RWHP, full suspension(LCA's UCA's Pan inc), Full Nav/Blue Tooth, 20x10.5(rear) 20x9(front) and the kit you see for basically the price of a SS...about 32k. My car is a 08. So not sure where you got those numbers from...but yeah there a little off. Unless of course, your not shopping and just taking what the first guy offers or tell you. |

First, there has not been a SVT dealer network for many years. You can order/buy a SVT vehicle from any Ford dealership. I do believe that a dealer has to be authorized by Roush to sell one of their cars, however. Secondly, GT500's cost nowhere near $60K. Sticker on my 2010 was $48 and some change and I paid less than that for the car. Also, why is it always an assumption that if a particular performance car gets "close to the Corvette price", that a buyer is going to choose to buy a Corvette? While I can appreciate a Corvette's performance and styling, I have absolutly no desire to own one. I never have. Last edited by GTAHVIT; 03-17-2010 at 04:35 PM. Reason: edited. |

there really no reason to point out that the camaro gets 600hp with 8lbs of boost. besides i was just correcting the info he din't know. theres really no reason to fight over stock time's, when all of us here are going to modify are car, even if it's just a CAI. wow this tread is still going, lets debate some more.lol

Yeah, but you know Ford was anticipating the SS having way more power than their GT put out. So I would say the SS did have a hand in the development of the new hp numbers for the Mustang. Not that this is bad. On the contrary, it is very good for all of us who love these cars.
