Speed limits are a lowest common denominator....designed to keep the masses safe. By trying to keep eveyrone under a certain speed, everyone's chances improve.

You don't have to be the only person on the road, if you are obviously traveling at a faster rate than the cars around you, you can be singled out... then ZAP! Instant on radar has got YOU!

I got pulled over a few years back for the following reason.....
There's been reports of stolen Suburbans in this neighbourhood (I was driving a Suburban at the time) just wanted to make sure you owned it. True story! Scouts Honor.

Also, every speeding ticket I ever got was for going LITERALLY the same speed as everyone else on the road (within 10 mph of the limit). Yet I have on several occasions seen some jackhole clearly doing 100 mph, dodging around cars and generally risking everyone's life....and they never seem to get nailed. Quote:
Perhaps you should commend US for not causing those accidents. |

no im not talking abt waiting till he gets right on your ass with his lights on then run thats stupid that is a felony.....im saying first thing when i passed the cop going 10 ovr i would of sped up he said it took the cop a minute and a half to catch up with him? its not felony evading if the cop doesnt have his blue lights on yet it is just a bigger speeding ticket if he does catch up to you AND clocks you with his radar.. think smart not dumb or jsut turn off on a side road.. he said the roads were clear with no traffic didnt he? perfect oportunity to just speed up.. i mean honestly what do you think the cop was driving? |

I fell out of my chair when I read this! It is, however, true. Our highways represent the main transportation for many products, and those products would not arrive as expected with slower speed limits. This could have a crippling economic and social impact when it comes to certain products if the 5-mph highway were ever adopted. ![]() Quote:
My complaint is with the law, not the enforcement of the law. The law should be changed to reflect modern technology. 30 years ago, many roads had the same speed limits that apply today. Is it possible that legislation regarding speed limits should reflect the braking power of new automobiles? Is it also possible that the law should make it harder for irresponsible drivers to get licenses? I think there should be less drivers. Not everyone is good enough to drive. I reluctantly obey speed limits most of the time, and I always obey other traffic laws, like yielding and signaling. I haven't had a ticket in 3 years and have no intention of getting one ever again, although I'm sure I'm bound to get one eventually. Because I'm a responsible driver, I do not endanger other drivers. Meanwhile, others who obey speed limits religiously spend their road time on their phones, eating burgers, putting on makeup, and even shaving! There are more dangerous things than driving fast, and the law should provide harsher penalties for reckless driving behavior with higher speed limits.

Nothing wrong with that. Although, I am sure Rayner would think so probably thinking the cop should have known where/when the Suburban was going to be stolen from and been next to it to preven it from being stolen.

No one ever said anything about them pulling someone over for 'no reason.' Are you serious? Never? I've seen countless times where they have 5-10 cops lining a freeway with one guy on a bike sitting on an overpass during rush hour. The bike cop will shoot the beam at as many cars as he can, call out the make and model and the cops lining the road will reel them in one by one. This goes on for hours. I've seen this happen around here a LOT. |
