With stated motivation being different than what is ASSUMED under the mandate scenario, you do not have a mandate. So in an effort to try to stay on topic (7th Gen Camaro or not) it would seem to me that if GM does revive the Voltec approach to bring back a range extender, they could produce a car that launches like a beast but maybe relies on the ICE to extend the range on highway where EVs have the lowest efficiency. In that case, however, the EREV engine does not provide power to the wheels. The engine only replenishes the battery. Same as a Chevrolet Volt in Hold mode.

No, the topic was, "Will there be a 7th gen ICE Camaro?". The answer is no, government mandates have forced car companies to switch over to EV's and now that the failure of these mandates to force EV's at warp speed has failed, the government has backed off the throttle to encourage hybrids. GM and Chrysler have been brought to heel, Ford will be too. |

I think we can get around the semantics by referring to them as "de facto mandates"

Or does it simply come down to what the meaning of the word “is” is?

Since multiple manufacturers have backed away from saying they’ll go all EV by an overly ambitious date it does give me a glimmer of hope that there can be an ice camaro. Hybrid counts as ice to me. A hybrid small displacement DOHC V8 would probably make more power and torque than my LT1 so I would welcome that.

I am not holding my breath for a 7th generation Camaro after the company committed very strong signaling towards EV.
However, with regret, this era could prove fatal to both Chevrolet and GM unless they generate new and exciting automotive material. We need these ideas yesterday! Call it what you want, but it was a misstep to gamble that EV technology would be the one and done and save all to GM and their woes. Their single best product, and their saving grace, are the light duty pickup trucks and full sized SUVs. GM and Chevy will have some very hard days ahead of them.

I myself was never under any grand illusions that the Camaro would come back as an ICE coupe, especially once Queen Mary reassigned Al Oppenheiser to EV development and 7th Gen development was axed.
At this point it doesn’t matter. I’ve made my peace, both with the loss of Camaro forever and my dedication to GM. Ford has my loyalty from now on. They’re committed to Mustang gas V8 production long-term. .

I for one look forward to all these idiotic regulations and mandates imploding GM.
When they're finally dumb enough to produce an EV or hybrid "Camaro", I'll wait for the inevitable LT swap! Whats just as funny, you could 4.8 or 5.3 LS swap a new 4cyl. Acadia terd and get as good of gas mileage as the worthless 4 cylinder!!! Even my Equinox with a 1.5 turbo would be better of with a 4.8 LS!!!! Its only getting about 24MPG!

Mean while at your corner bar, all the real Americans who bust their butts all day and punch a clock want is an affordable, reliable, uncomplicated gasoline burning car with no unreliable turbos or complicated hybrid systems that get them and their families to where they need and want to go. With no BS. No hassles of charging. No expensive repairs. In other words, the 3800 V6 or the 350 V8. That’s all real people want.

If there's one thing I've learned from watching emissions strategies in all these different markets, you can simply add fuel AND catalyst capacity to clean up the pipe. |
