Just received the sales data for August. Intentionally not using exact numbers. People pay $$ for that info.

Hybrids

• Just under 150k sold in US in August ‘24, compared to 108k in August ‘23
• Toyota Camry the highest selling hybrid (>25k)Honda CR-V second (~20k) and Toyota RAV4 third (~15k)
• YTD Sales ~ 999k, up from 741k in ‘23 (Thanks Camry!)
• Camry Hybrid up 438% due to switch to hybrid only.

PHEV

• ~29k sold in August ‘24, compared to 26k in August ‘23 (up 7.7%)
• Jeep Wrangler 4Xe is tops (~5,600), followed by Toyota Prius Prime (~2,700), followed by Jeep Grand Cherokee 4Xe (~2,500)
• Year to date ~ 213k compared to 178k in ‘23 (up 17.9%)
• Prius Prime (47%) and RAV4 Prime (39%) show the greatest growth.

BEV

• ~121k sold in August, compared to 106k in August ‘23 (up 10.1%)
• Tesla Model Y (just under 31k) and Tesla Model 3 (~15k) top the list with Honda Prologue third (~5.4k)
• Tesla Cybertruck is 5th @ ~4,800
• Year to date is ~830k, compared to ‘23 at 767k. (Up 6.6%)
• Cadillac Lyriq shows greatest y-t-y growth (270%) and has for several months been the 2nd best selling Cadillac.

Meanwhile, over in Germany, EV sales are down 67% in August ‘24 compared to August ‘23!

Some of that is due to sales in general being down 28% and Germany ending incentives for most EVs. As a result, automakers are in position to face stiff fines if they don’t meet the EU fuel consumption targets so there is discussion on resetting the incentives.

Not impressive, inspiring, or fun. Just Mash pedal to floor and go. No sound. No feel. No soul. They even need a beepy thingy on the driver to make sure he doesn’t fall asleep. No real adrenaline rush. No gauges to watch. Just……. Put foot down and go.

An appliance.

Plus the Hellcat can recharge from completely empty anywhere, any time, in less than ten minutes.

Are you implying that this BEV sales growth is driven by factory incentives, OEMs taking losses, government subsidies, diminishing ICE alternatives, and surplus inventory? Is that sustainable? If so, for how long?

Get over it. BEV is superior to ICE in many ways. You are in an EV thread so stop wasting our time with your nonsense.


A huge drag slicked burnout heated tires VHT track prepped 1000hp car beat a stock much cheaper family sedan. Other than that, the Hellcats lost. The comments are good, many people switched from their scat pak's to the model 3 performance after their own test drives and had no regrets.


Instead of fart noises I want Elon to make an Ice Cream truck type tune as that would be funny to play instead of fratzonic noises as I embarrass the ICE cars at a light in Mexico.

To be fair, watch the Hellcat's front wheel. It just sits there when the Tesla leaves. Doesn't move at all. Probably gave the Tesla a two car length head start.

I'm not saying Teslas can't beat Hellcats, just that this isn't the best video to prove it.

Nobody is embarassed by EVs anymore. It is a well known and accepted fact that they are fast. And anybody who bought a fast ICE car could have bought an EV so there's not even the envy thing like some people have toward, say, Ferrari drivers.
