Does the 6th gen have any artifacts leftover from production these days? Paper build sheets or parts/invoice documentation stuffed anywhere?

When I lifted my SS for the first time the other day, I was blown away by the use of labels, QR codes on seemingly everything. There are so many.

The “build sheet” is a sticker in either the trunk lid under the insulation or on the trunk floor. It has every code for every feature your car was built with, standard and optional.

If you’re lucky enough you got the factory assembly tag that’s taped to the hood after body/paint so everyone down the line knows what parts to install at a glance. The factory throws it in the passenger seat after final inspection.

Most dealers throw them out at PDI. Some customers throw them out when they buy the car.

My dealer called me literally when my car came off the truck and they didn’t touch the window sticker or assembly tag in PDI. Great dealer who knows their customers!! Shout out to Kevin at Serpentini Chevy in Westlake, Ohio

I think the SPID label is what you're referring to as a "sticker". Build sheets are different, usually tossed loose or hidden somewhere, and they do contain RPO information, but also other information about the assembly. They were typically paper sheets with the form-feed margins for the dot-matrix printer still on. I'm curious this is even part of a process anymore or if it's all electronic/scanned stuff.

I bought my 6th gen new off the lot, I didn't order it. Any tag taped to the hood was long gone. The car had been sitting for a while and even in Nov 2023 I was able to get a good discount off MSRP. I have the window sticker, and I'm happy The car is going to get driven...I think. lol. It's racked up 507 whole miles in 6 months! The weather hasn't been great.

Sorry to hear that. I cringed just reading that.

Even if your ‘69 was “totaled” in the early 80s it’d be worth every penny spent to restore it to brand new today. Even if you had to replace the entire front sub-frame.

I figured that they were destined to be classis even back then. Mine was just a 307 3-speed manual car. A guy in a Mercury Comet pulled out in front of me. The doghouse was trashed, the subframe was bent, radiator and fan damaged, windshield broken. But all fixable. The rear quarters had been replaced a few years before due to rust issues. I still wanted to fix it, but lived with my parents and my dad did want it sitting around.

The LeMans Blue/Black Vinyl color combination was the inspiration for ordering my 2010 in Aqua Blue/Balck Leather.

Certain Camaros are surprise-classics. Like the IROC. Back in the day, a lot of car guys described them as plastic ***boxes that would never be worth anything in the future, especially with those strangled 305's.

The 1985 9-mile IROC found in a shipping container just sold for $100k.

That 9 mile car is an anomaly and an outlier. That statement about the 3rd gens is true though. They were and are huge plastic sh!tboxes. I know the one I had out of high school was! I still love those cars though.

I think the prices for them are insane though. The 5.7 TPI cars should command decent prices but the 5.0 cars should not, imo.

It’s my generation (80s kids) driving the prices up on all mint 3rd gen’s. Even 305s. If it’s in nice shape, hasn’t been driven hard and put away wet, and has all of its factory setups, they’re gaining value big time.

Those are the cars we wanted to buy new when we were kids but if we were lucky we got a pile of rattling junk 3.4 or Iron Duke ‘87 for our 16th birthday around 1992-96.

I knew it was bound to happen about 10 years ago when late 2nd gen’s started creeping up. Smogged down lumps under the hood but a nice ‘77-81 were starting to top the $20k mark not long after they were “not special Camaros”

Yeah, $100k is an outlier, but low mile third gens are generally insane like you said. Plenty of examples going for 40-60k. With 305's.

Late 4th gens are starting to exceed their original MSRP's. Nice 35th SS cars going for mid-30's to low 40's. And you can buy a driver-quality SS with the same powertrain for 15-20.

A = Alpha
1 = 1st generation (current CT4 / CT5 are A2)
B = Coupe (CT4 is S for Sedan, CT5 is L for Long Wheelbase Sedan)
C = Chevrolet (CT4 / CT5 are L for Cadillac)

Just wondering….. why was my “Theft Deterrent” code left blank? Is there another upper level security system I could have opted for? One with a shock sensor or interior motion sensor?

They don’t hide them under the back seat or on top of the gas tank like they used to in the old days. It’s just tossed into the passenger seat after all the final seat wrappings and covers are put on and final QC is complete.

So if it wasn’t with your car unfortunately the dealer most likely tossed it upon arrival or PDI.
