If anyone here had a choice of the challenger rt vs the camaro lt/rs for the same price, which one would you choose?
I think I saw a truck load on my way to Mississauga this morning, on the QEW in Grimsby. But I was in the right hand lane, he was in the middle going the other way. I only saw for a split second but I think it was a load of Challengers not Chargers. I've seen 2 challengers on the streets, one silver one orange. Both were in Brampton/Mississauga area.

With the Challenger SRT8 MSRP at $42k I can't see a loaded SS Camaro coming in much lower then $40k, and a loaded V6 at $30k.

I hope I am wrong, but I don't think so. $40k will be my max.

I priced out a Challenger SRT8 with all the nice options and the MSRP was over $45k. How can a loaded SS Camaro with an engine just as nice, huge wheels, and all the options be less then $40k?

Thats what I like to know, can't say the 6.1 is expensive when the engine is based off of a GM engine architect.....sort of

That's the entire point!

No offense the Challenger fans, here...but the SRT8 is horribly overpriced.
The SS (which isn't even the SRT8-equivilant model level, btw) will be priced according to Mustang GT specs while providing SRT8+ performance.

THAT is what the Camaro's all about.

A local dealer has 2 V6's in stock. I drove one yesterday. I hate to say it but it is not that bad of a car. I think the V6 is priced close to the value, it was $26 with leather and sunroof. The steering was WAY different than my VW but overall the car was decent. Granted it was brand new. The steering just felt wierd. I would make an adjustment to keep it straight and then all of a sudden it felt like you were headed for the fields. The on center feel was less than steller. You only get the V6 in an auto, man did that just solidify with me to never own an automatic car! Maybe the paddle shifters would be tolerable, but the auto is such a waste for me (and me only). The sales guy is going to call me when they get an R/T. Like I said it would be very difficult for me to own one (I'm a Camaro guy that is it.) but it is not the big turd I was hoping it would be.

If this car is over 40k..regardless if its loaded, it will bomb, and GM will yet again fail in hurting times..and I will gladly turn the other cheek...I love this car, I love GM, I have a passion through all gens in some way I have been involved with each generation in some sort of manner....but the hype for the challenger will end a few months down the road....once that fad concludes, challenger srt wont sell at 42K, I don't see the gas guzzler tax or the fact that it IS a gas guzzler will stay even at 40k very long. There is a dodge dealership just down the road which NEVER puts sticker inside the vehicle, which is a violation of law if I recall in most states....and both vehicles have not been touched after the asking price is mentioned. I expect the camaro dealers will follow suit for a short period as well....it took not even a month since the second challenger arrived on the lot that the prices are beginnging to lower. If you think people are going to continuously pay 40k for this vehicle in a time where the media is playing up this "recession", then I think those dealerships with that mentality will learn the hard way as it sits and sits. Yea, you will get a few buyers...just as the challenger HAS had some takers who picked theirs up over 45k...but less than a hand ful that I have seen.

I think the challenger is a good lookin car, and I adore this new camaro. But if either is priced at 40k, I will gladly walk away and keep my truck. No one NEEDs this car...its a want, and not many of us WANT it for over 35k.

Not to mention competitively priced with mustang? 40K?....then where do you start the Z/28 (if that even resurfaces). Are you going to price the Z/28 at 50+ and watch that sit on a lot like the GT500 and Shelby do?

Especially since the 40k range introduces new competitors like the Corvette. I highly doubt GM wants to compete with itself. I love the Camaro, but I've always wanted a Vette and would take one over a Camaro any day were they close in price.

I've said it many a time. The mainstream public is not going to look at the engine or all the features; they will look at the price tag. If a 2009 Mustang GT costs 4-5k less than the Camaro SS, then the Mustang GT will outsell the SS by a wide margin. It wouldn't be the first time this has happened. GM must price the Camaro within 1-2k of the Mustang at all levels if it wants a chance at sales. The Camaro has some pretty slick competition this time, especially with the fast, light Mustang GT (even before the redesign) and the more practical Challenger R/T.

I think (or at least hope) that GM recognizes this, and will prevent them from pricing the SS comparative to the GT500 and SRT-8; they have too much riding on this car to allow it to become a colossal failure, and that's what would happen if GM priced it at those levels.
