With the Challenger SRT8 MSRP at $42k I can't see a loaded SS Camaro coming in much lower then $40k, and a loaded V6 at $30k.
I hope I am wrong, but I don't think so. $40k will be my max. |

I priced out a Challenger SRT8 with all the nice options and the MSRP was over $45k. How can a loaded SS Camaro with an engine just as nice, huge wheels, and all the options be less then $40k?

Thats what I like to know, can't say the 6.1 is expensive when the engine is based off of a GM engine architect.....sort of

No offense the Challenger fans, here...but the SRT8 is horribly overpriced. The SS (which isn't even the SRT8-equivilant model level, btw) will be priced according to Mustang GT specs while providing SRT8+ performance. THAT is what the Camaro's all about. |

Well I really hope I AM WRONG and a loaded SS manual is under $40k.
Then I won't put down as much and buy upgrades ASAP. |

A local dealer has 2 V6's in stock. I drove one yesterday. I hate to say it but it is not that bad of a car. I think the V6 is priced close to the value, it was $26 with leather and sunroof. The steering was WAY different than my VW but overall the car was decent. Granted it was brand new. The steering just felt wierd. I would make an adjustment to keep it straight and then all of a sudden it felt like you were headed for the fields. The on center feel was less than steller. You only get the V6 in an auto, man did that just solidify with me to never own an automatic car! Maybe the paddle shifters would be tolerable, but the auto is such a waste for me (and me only). The sales guy is going to call me when they get an R/T. Like I said it would be very difficult for me to own one (I'm a Camaro guy that is it.) but it is not the big turd I was hoping it would be.

I think the challenger is a good lookin car, and I adore this new camaro. But if either is priced at 40k, I will gladly walk away and keep my truck. No one NEEDs this car...its a want, and not many of us WANT it for over 35k. Not to mention competitively priced with mustang? 40K?....then where do you start the Z/28 (if that even resurfaces). Are you going to price the Z/28 at 50+ and watch that sit on a lot like the GT500 and Shelby do? |

I've said it many a time. The mainstream public is not going to look at the engine or all the features; they will look at the price tag. If a 2009 Mustang GT costs 4-5k less than the Camaro SS, then the Mustang GT will outsell the SS by a wide margin. It wouldn't be the first time this has happened. GM must price the Camaro within 1-2k of the Mustang at all levels if it wants a chance at sales. The Camaro has some pretty slick competition this time, especially with the fast, light Mustang GT (even before the redesign) and the more practical Challenger R/T. I think (or at least hope) that GM recognizes this, and will prevent them from pricing the SS comparative to the GT500 and SRT-8; they have too much riding on this car to allow it to become a colossal failure, and that's what would happen if GM priced it at those levels. |
