M4 is the natural competitor for the Camaro IMO. You are comparing what M is as affordable as the Camaro.

Pretty sure one of the car magazines pointed that out in 2016, Car and Driver maybe? They never talk about price/value in a big way because they don't want to offend advertisers. If their business was "reviewing," they would say "$40,000 car beats $80,000 car." But their actual business is selling advertising.

I totally agree. Good point about holding on to a BMW and how expensive that can be.

if the 240 was the same price as the LT1 I would have considered it. But considering I want to be buried in this car purchase, the LT1 fit the bill. The cost difference and the point about keeping a BMW made the Camaro an easy choice for me. And since I had already owned an SS and ZL1 even before driving the LT1 I knew this, the lightest and simplist V8 Camaro I knew up front the LT1 was a great choice. My choice was spot on once I drove it.

From recent BMW reviews BMW has made better sporty cars these days, even the 3 series. They certainly not crap. People saying that never drove the latest one. Or maybe none at all.

If you want a gas powered keeper start thinking about that now.

That was Motor Trend. The video was pretty entertaining actually. Randy Pobst drove both cars on track at the Streets of Willow.

Hahaha nah dude. I'll take my North Korean ballistic missile over any Chevy sedan in the price range. Oh that's right--Chevy doesn't make exciting sedans anymore. America barely makes exciting sedans besides the Charger or the Cadillac CT-Vs.

Someone said earlier that the dealership experience is better at BMW. Well, YMMV. I have a Chevy dealer that treats me great and wastes no time fixing my Camaro; OTOH, dealing with the local Penske BMW dealer was a hassle.

When I owned an M3, I found the cost of parts annoying. My BMW and my wife's both disappointed us in terms of reliability. As others have said, a better can to lease or own short term, than to buy and hold.

I drive a Camaro V6 1LE on track and have found it's pretty similar to the M2. I know the M2CS is faster, but I am not impressed with the M2 or M240i's track performance. Probably a nicer car inside, but less driving feel I bet. I test drove the previous generation M4 and ended the test drive early, I hated how numb it was.

You mentioned you're considering a CT4V Blackwing. If you could get one of those, that seems like the best of both worlds. The CT5V would be a good GT car and probably does fine on track.

You only need a 2-person car, there is also the Cayman to consider. It's a good daily driver and has a wonderful lightweight feel. At your price range you would have to go used, and used cars aren't good values these days. But depending on how soon you buy, that could start to change.

Good points all. I'm also very curious as to whether the M240i will feature a locking rear differential if it's released in 2WD form- the absence of which would be unacceptable.

The Nissan Z base model, 40K, 400HP and another worthy seeming option- supposedly does not have the locking differential either so I'm kind of back, value-wise to the Camaro SS. I do agree that for something you can leave in the garage for 10 years and expect to find affordable parts, none of the other cars is a match. CT4-V Blackwing is probably the perfect car for me, if I can't fit in a Camaro they MAY be available used at a 10K discount someday, or not.

Well, you have to admit, when you say an SUV handles like a sports car, you are going to receive some skepticism. I don't doubt it's one of the better handling SUV, I just personally don't put handling as a high priority for an SUV, or I would consider a wagon. To each of their own, though.

I don't doubt it's fast in a straight line. Get it a powerful enough engine to haul the mass and you are good. AWD helps with traction as well.

I bought this for the wife, so it's just a grocery getter to me. I wanted an SUV that I would enjoy driving since we have to have one. This SUV does .97 of lateral Gs, and that was the previous model with less power and unrevised springs. I posted in response to the ignorant comment made about the Brand. Most car guys I know can appreciate performance from all different brands, now fanboys, well, their fanboys.

I have a TON of parts ordered for my LT1, can't wait for them to come in. This is one of the least expensive cars I've owned over the years, and after 570 miles, one of my favorites I have ever owned. Redline Motorsports and the Whipple build is incoming

You got triggered. I said something bad about a BMW, which I've owned 3 BTW, two of which were //M cars, and you got offended. They are utter garbage now with no emotion and just appliances that people lease for a few years and dump. Even after driving the new M2C I felt bored after 15min. My older 08 and 09 M3s were more engaging than the junk that comes out of Germany today. BMWs are now for soccer moms that want a 500hp AWD headache that never see cold weather - kinda like you living in Florida.

I compared the M240i and you got offended and somehow turned it into a SUV discussion. You BMW kiddies just can't handle your delicate egos dumped on. Let me say it again - no one cares about your SUV.

Agreed. An fast, tall SUV…….is still an SUV and is not sport coupe no matter what. That said the M240 is a heck of a car and I’d have considered one but not when my SS was way less.
