I think you missed the part about the pnemonia...Thats why I was not released and why most people die from it.

Pneumonia is tough....damn it is....I don't wanna think about it.
I had a mild case as a kid. I don't ever want to go through that, again.:(

I'm glad you came through it okay. The only time I got the flu in the last 15 years is when I got a flu vaccine. Some people don't realize that you are actually getting the live virus put into you when you get those shots. I personally don't think this round of vaccine received enough testing, but that's another subject. End of the day, I'm just very happy that you pulled through!

I think the big press is coming because the % of people infected with H1N1 that end up dying is much more significant than the % of people with the 'regular' flu.

The fact that more people die of regular flu is only reflective of the much larger number of people who have contracted the normal flu.

That being said, and this coming from someone who had H1N1... its being blown out of proportion.

that right there is why I won't get it, the only time I have ever gotten the flu is when a got a shot for it

My kids had it too. It looks like you had the mild strain that is going around, which is what most people are getting, including our kids. Thankfully, Hubby and I didn't get it. Nothing worse than the whole family getting the flu.

You can't believe what the news is saying. They report how many people have died, but don't tell you that it is the statistic for the entire world! Of course the number will be high, especially in third world countries.

its becoming spring in austrailia and only 200 people died of h1n1 out of 22 million... and the president declares a national emergency?!? give me a break

You received a live attenuated virus which would have given you some aches and pains but was NOTHING like full-borne influenza. If you truly did have influenza then you were exposed to it in the community in addition to receiving the vaccine. Remember it takes a couple of weeks to mount an immune response and get those antibodies circulating.

As for testing a vaccine against a virus that changes with geography and time, there are too many constraints to evaluate a vaccine the way we evaluate other biologics. We're forced to do the best we can with the little time we have. Yes there is some inherrant risk, but go back and read the OP...

First off I'm glad to hear that you made it though ok and that you're back home again. Thank you very much for sharing your story with us as I've not heard too many accounts of people who have actually had it. From the ones that I have heard it seems that like the regular flu the toll it takes on people can certainly vary greatly, based on a lot of different factors. Most importantly though I'm glad to hear you're alright.

I read the OP, and I don't have a reading comprehension problem. We can simply agree to have differing opinions on this subject.
