I'm sorry Slim, but this is one for the books... I seriously am awestruck that a 426HP $34K Camaro, weighing only 15 lbs less... ran with a $50K 540HP Mustang (that's 114HP more) Camaro Mustang 0-30 mph 1.9 sec 2.0 sec 0-40 2.6 2.7 0-50 3.5 3.7 0-60 4.5 4.6 0-70 5.7 5.5 0-80 7.2 6.8 0-90 8.7 8.2 0-100 10.5 9.7 Quarter mile 12.9 sec @ 110.7 mph 12.8 sec @ 115.3 mph MT COMPARISON YES the Mustang beat the Camaro... by 1/10th of a sec and 4 MPH. That is pathetic, and basically says that if the Camaro even remotely got the LSA (560HP without the "Quiet Tuned" exhaust from Cadillac restricting it) it would MURDER the GT500. Also... I call a car with 114 MORE HP getting just 4MPH more than the lesser in the Trap pretty effin sad... and a WASTE of DOE. |

I'll give you a hint, it starts with 'tractio' And then further, what makes you think that a Camaro with similar numbers wouldn't suffer from the same problem ? Keep this in mind: The people who did these tests aren't the owners of these cars and are likely going to have much more trouble controlling 'tractio' issues than someone who has, say, replaced the tires and knows how to drive more effectively. |

2010 Shelby GT500 Scorecard Run 60-Foot 1/4-Mile/MPH 1. 1.852 11.855/117.66 2. 1.850 11.784/118.93 3. 1.825 11.805/117.36 4. 1.778 11.592/118.45 5. 1.91311.951/120.29* The first 4 are on ET streets, the last one is on stock tires. The car was 100% stock. That's an absolute ass whooping on the camaro and the mustang GT. People just aren't going to hop into a 550hp mustang and cut good 60's their first try unless they have experience driving cars like it. The camaro shouldn't beat the gt500 to any speed if the driver isn't making major errors and if you launch properly, a gt500 will leave a camaro in a cloud of dust. When an ss traps anywhere near 120 in stock form, you come let us know. Last edited by 8cd03gro; 05-02-2010 at 04:13 PM. |

Casa..... come on man...
in the comparison between the 2011 mustang and 2010 camaro you pointed out that the camaro is essentially better because, while they posted similar numbers, the camaro outruns the mustang at the top end. then in the comparison between the GT500 and 2010 camaro you say the camaro is amazing because it posts similar numbers to the GT500. but you failed to mention that the GT500 gets to 100 mph almost a full second ahead of the camaro. obviously traction was solely responsible for the sub par times the GT500 posted. please be a little more consistent in your comparisons. |

Anyone who thinks that the Camaro is nearly equal to the GT500 really needs to have a reality check, cause they're not in the real world.
Simply changing out the tires for better traction unit will cause the GT500 to completely destroy the SS, it isnt even funny. Also..throwing on a LSA into the Camaro wont change the fact that the GT500 will still be lighter and have a better HP to weight ratio. |

The difference between track cars and street cars.
Realistically the easiest way to reduce Camaro weight is to put it on a new platform. Otherwise maybe take out the interior, lighter exhaust and intake, etc.. The fact is the Challenger and Camaro are both heavy because they're based on full size, RWD sedans. |

That's a very simplistic explanation. It's not completely true...at least not in the case of the Camaro.

Wow.. a respectful post. Thanks... and I agree with your assessment. The Gt500 is certainly a better performer than the SS.. but I point out that while it is.. it also boasts a 114HP power advantage and an additional price premium that would be enuff to get me an incentive laden Ford Fusion. |
