What does this mean for the convertible for next year? Will they still build it? If they don't build it I will be crushed bc that is what I am getting!

The only reason Camaros are still being produced right now (and will continue to be produced) is that the govt gave GM the money it needed to pay suppliers. Otherwise, no parts, and no Camaros.

Something to think about, for those of you taking delivery lately...

Bush and Obama both thought GM was to big to fail and spent billions of taxpayer dollars doing it. Yes we want our camaros but having the government own 70% of a private company means they will call the shots. Obama doesn't strike me as the V8 big horsepower kind of guy. The V8 camaro has been saved for now but don't count on the government to keep the muscle car dream alive. If they had their way, we would all be driving civics tomorrow! (Except for them of course)

Whatever it takes to get the company back to profitability, they should do it. obviously GM's previous plan did not work. The worse that can happen is GM is sold off, which is what would have happened anyways. Everything right now should be seen as a bonus.

I agree. It can only go up from here. The worst that could happen is the government DOES make a bunch of cars getting 30-35 mpg, like someone else said, which will probably sell, for a while until GM starts making money to pay off the loans. And what's so bad about that? It's not like they couldn't make anything with a v8 at all...they just need to meet a certain mpg average between all their cars, which when you think about it, the economic cars that are sure to come would allow more v8's, no?

In the end, I think GM filing for Ch. 11 will help them in the long run. They're shedding excess weight, and slimming down to just what they need. While I hate to see Pontiac go, I have to admit that it's stupid of GM to have so many "cousin" vehicles.

How ironic.

I have a calendar hanging on my wall at work.

It's a calendar that has a bunch of different buildings whose facades were built out of Reynobond (a composite aluminum panel).

I switch the month to June.

Guess what pops up?

I really think that everything will be juuust dandy. At first i was a little paranoid, but seriously the 'Maro is what will help to save GM. They will keep building it. And we will keep buying it

I think all will be fine. The government doesn't want to be in the car business. When GM becomes profitable again, it will be no time before they buy their shares back.

Wishful thinking..It would have to be a Republican in office who would orchestrate such a move..

GM will not be the company you all remember... the Obama administration will own 70% of this company. Look at any profitable company that the government owns... you can't. The ones they own don't make a profit. I'm looking to own a pony car at the end of 2010. Right now Ford's looking really nice...

Just something to think about. Pontiac, Hummer, SAAB are all brands that won't be produced anymore.

The Obama administration will tell them what cars to produce, and they will get 30-35+ MPG. How can they do this? They will own 70% of the damn company!

GM will not turn a profit and will eventually go completely bankrupt. Crazy stuff...
Excellent post. I love the Old GM, however this new Government GM does not look promising to me. All I can do is sit back and elect Conservative Republican's into office that do not believe in a large, all powerful, industry owning/buying Government. The Bush administration did help out GM giving them loans which GM was supposed to pay back later on once they made a profit. I wasn't against that.. Now those loans have been erased..poof...in thin air.. Am I not supposed to get mad at that??

How many V8s or muscle cars would GM be making if they were liquidated? Zero.

BTW, there's something more important here than us getting muscle cars and V8s.

If the government let the automakers fail, the fact is that large swaths of North America would literally fall into a state similar to the Great Depression.

How many of you have been to Detroit lately? Do you all want the entire midwest to look like that?
