I think it will be a good thing. The cars that don't sell will die off.

It's gonna become more like a make to order biz for new I think. Instead of massive lots of new.

...could stink of massive price gouging if it does come to that. Recall the dealer-ZOMGIHAETJOO thing when GM/car companies pondered direct sales to the consumer?

Yeah..

did everyone forget GM has already paid off the suppliers for the month of june? as everyone has said its up to the suppliers to keep things going, and I have to assume that the 5 billion GM got last week is going directly to the suppliers to keep the plants up and running. If bankruptcy takes a while i could see an impact maybe in july, but at this point there is no reason to expect the plant not to be open tomorrow.

I hate to say it but this still may just be delaying the inevitable. I'm not sure about let's have fewer dealers so we can have more pricing power. As far as I'm concerned their prices are too high already. I know they are addressing their cost structure but if they don't pass it along it will all be for nothing. I'm still not sure these guys get it!!!

GM will not be the company you all remember... the Obama administration will own 70% of this company. Look at any profitable company that the government owns... you can't. The ones they own don't make a profit. I'm looking to own a pony car at the end of 2010. Right now Ford's looking really nice...

Just something to think about. Pontiac, Hummer, SAAB are all brands that won't be produced anymore.

The Obama administration will tell them what cars to produce, and they will get 30-35+ MPG. How can they do this? They will own 70% of the damn company!

GM will not turn a profit and will eventually go completely bankrupt. Crazy stuff...

The good news here, GM will shed a ton of debt and bagage of useless brands. Bad news is the human damage such lay-offs. For me, and a few others, I'm glad and saddened by this course GM has had little choice but to go forward with. Why I'm glad? GM is still not owned by the FED. This means less restriction in what they produce and hope for a Z/28 has been risen. It's tough to see this happen, all the lives it will affect, but a stronger more possitive GM will rise from this.

Godspeed to all at GM.

Jesus...

I just notced that 60% of GM will be owned by the FED. Shit!, that's the first loan they have to pay back! All that Bankruptcy talk about not being owned by the fed. Why couldn't the UAW make the concessions needed?

There goes Camaro Z/28 Damn it!!! Damn it all to hell!!!

I agree with you 100%

Let's just pray that this crap works itself out, GM comes back around when the economy does, pays back the gov't and BAM! Tells them to KISS THEIR ASS!

Dude... If the Obama administration hadn't stepped in, GM would already have gone "completely bankrupt" (meaning it would have gone into liquidation already).

The only reason Camaros are still being produced right now (and will continue to be produced) is that the govt gave GM the money it needed to pay suppliers. Otherwise, no parts, and no Camaros.

Something to think about, for those of you taking delivery lately...
