I had an 04 and yes they are quick but do not be afraid to run a stock one with a SS. When my 04 was bone stock I did manage one 12:76 pass but most runs were in the high 12s to low 13s. A pulley change, CAI, and tune netted me 450rwhp and low 12 timeslips.

Should be no bashing as both cars are awesome. The new 5.0 mustang is the best mustang to date for the $$ and the power & tq that little motor puts out is amazing, but both are great right along with the hemi challenger. We all wanted to see the muscle cars come back and they have with a vegeance!

I had an 04 Comp Orange Cobra with 493 RWHP. That thing would eat my Shelby alive. Wish I would have kept it. I'm hoping to get over 500 N/A from the SS. By the way I drove one new 5.0 and it felt pretty fast, but I didn't get to beat on it.

LS3 has higher peak output (426 vs 412 or 420 depending on year). LS3 is lighter LS3 makes more power throughout 90-95% of the entire powerband. LS3 takes up less space LS3 is capable of roughly the same fuel economy If you want HP/L then buy a Honda. Or get a V6 camaro, which has a high hp/L as well.GM is following suit. The GEN V V8 will be released soon. We shall see what that powerplant will bring. |

WJust highlighting a few things, also, while HP p/l is not the best indicator, this is still a 1.2 liter SMALLER motor keeping pace, can you imagine a 6.2 with all the 5.0s tech? The gen V SBCs should be pretty nice. |

![]() The fuel economy is more due to the heavier camaro and aerodynamics. In 2013 in a stick mustang it's 15 city/26 highway. The LS3 is 16 city/24 highway. In a vette it's 16 city/26 highways. |

I wouldn't call a 5.0 "just a fanboy engine" as some have suggested. They're getting 390tq, 420hp out of 4.951 liters. They have power everywhere in the RPM range, run as smooth as any Lincoln or Cadillac anywhere in the RPM range, and while I know we don't buy cars like these for fuel economy, it is still a bonus to be able to get around 30 MPG from a 400+ hp engine with the cruise set on the interstate, as mine does.
Any objective analysis would lead you to believe that both 5.0 and LS3 engines are outstanding pieces of engineering in their own ways. And guys, both are only getting better. Everyone here knows the Gen Vs are coming soon. And when they do, Ford has left a lot on the table with the current 5.0 as well. Direct injection will soon be coming to both, and surely a few other extra goodies as well. Things are only gonna get better in the next few years, and we all have the competition between the two to thank.

LOL...it's a waste to discuss it. Some members here have the same attitude about the competition as I did when I was in high-school (yes, high-school). I was quoted as once saying, "You know what happens when a Ford and a Dodge race? Nobody wins."
Then I grew up, and realized that all cars have pros and cons. I can't build them from the ground up, so there is no such thing as my perfect car. Just respect the other guy's preference and move on. We have the best selection of performance cars right now than any other period in history. Buy what pleases you, be proud of it, but don't walk around thinking it's better than anything else out there. It isn't.
