i was talking to the pontiac people at the buffalo auto show and they said they are phasing out the grand prix the G8 will be replacing it as the G6 replaced the grand am and the G5 replaced the sunfire.

I suppect this...I owned an 98 Grandprix GTP (supercharge V6) and loved it.

The G8 is replacing both the Bonneville and the Grand Prix, hence the bump in size.
