Here's where I'm at; I think its very important to see who will be king of the hill between GM and Ford.

BUT - consider this...

Since the price tag on these two will be 40k,50k,maybe some even breaching 60k with options, they are getting close to another car with less HP than both (by a fair margin - 70hp +/-)

I'm talking about none other than the revamped Nissan R35 GT-R. New for the 2012 model year, hp has increased to 530 hp.

Now, we have intelligent people from both Ford and Chevy (and Mopar) camps on this thread....

...How do you see these king pony cars competing with Japan's Godzilla? At $88,000, the new GT-R is going to compete with the same perspective buyers as these GT500's, ZL1's, etc

Neither the current SS or GT500 can compete with the 480hp variant GT-R...

We're debating on this civil war story, but what about a foreign made car coming over here and cleaning up?

I really hope my topic is not off-topic too much, but I figured it can play since I'm comparing it to the Chevy and Ford...

Unfortunately (or fortunately, if you like Nissans), I feel the GT-R will be superior to either pony car, but I would like to see some insight to how my idea is wrong
Well - now a Ford guy's going to chime in and say the 620 horse' Cloverfield will just stop out Nissan's Godzilla's nuclear heart...

I forget about that dang car, LOL. I almost hate it. It's ugly, it cheats with AWD, it's display looks like Gran Turismo, and it's heavy. GOD - it's a good car, lol. I'd never buy one, mostly because I just have never like Nissan, but I won't argue it's just a great performing car. That GT-R WILL be superior to anything less than ZR1 or a Ford equivalent to their GT. Still - that's almost another $30K over the alleged GT500... That's stretching it, IMO.

I think it's all because of the AWD. Still - it flat-out performs. There's no arguing that FACT.

why has 60k become the base all of a sudden? theyre not gonna add $15,000 to the price tag of a fully loaded car and then have it be the base model without any options. cmon be realistic.

What do they add to the base GT500? Don't they start at something like $49K? That's not what the OP said I'm going off his statements.

to say AWD is cheating is like saying wide tires, large displacement engines, or forced induction are cheating as well.

Yeah - but I also said it works.

i know you said it works. i really wasnt trying to make an argument with you on that point. just pointing out that a lot of times people see the competitions repitoire and consider anything that their own cars dont have, as cheating to try to downplay the superior car.

I didn't downplay it, did I?

The OP said the ragtop can get to near $60K fully loaded. I see it starts near $54K. So if you can add $6K in options, or so, I think it's fair to extrapolate similar numbers to what's being reported. How many times have I seen the top range preliminary prices reported? I can't think of any. However - none of these numbers come from Ford, not even the power numbers, lol.

What - because I'm using the reported numbers some people have suggested are reasons why ZL1 is doomed, now, the reported numbers I'm using become less valuable because they don't support the GT500s alleged superiority? I'm using the same numbers from the same article. It's almost like people are trying to piece-meal the same information in their favor to swing their Mustang...

Haha, I'll admit - I DO FEEL THAT WAY

Back when I had the SRT-4, I used to always whine when I raced rwd cars from a stop - I made it seem like it was their fault for having RWD, lol. But then I figured out how to launch decent and hope I could play the "reel them in" game..I digress..

Now, to bring this full circle, I think what annoys me (while at the same time affirming people's statements) is that BOTH the Camaro and GT500 will be close OR OVER 600HP and (up to this point) we're all in agreement that the GT-R gets both of them in a line and around a track.

Yes, that super slick AWD system on the GTR is great for it, but I would like to think they can do something in the Camaro and Mustang to compete.

I mean, yes, having 600+ hp is awesome, NO DOUBT ABOUT IT, but both pony cars are only competing for bragging rights only against each other...

I love the GTR, but dang-it, I want an American car to beat it :flag2:

but nobody said 60k will be the base model price. Thats just adding words to the article. assuming the base model will jump sooo much in price (20% +) is rediculous. should we assume the 620hp is actually 620RWHP because
"technically im using the same "numbers" in the article"???

I dont see those 600hp verts going less than 55-60k.
What car can you buy today with 600 hp (whp or otherwise) for less than $60,000?
