Hey, that was the deal with my parents too. Worked for me. I worked nights and weekends at the local movie theaters too just to save up for a car. Ended up dumping everything I had into a '55 Chevy Bel Air. I didn't know jack about cars but sure as hell had to figure it out quick with that car or else I was walking or riding my bike everywhere.

Best of luck to the OP. Kids certainly have it a bit easier these days...

if you dont want criticism, you made a wrong choice starting a thread on the boundary's of ( I'm in highschool, and my parents are buying me a car what should I get), a better way of asking would be, (Given the options, which car would you get)

I'm going to try and give you some advice. When I turned 16 my parents let me buy my mom's old 99 maxima off them for $1000 less than what it was worth, came out to $3000 I paid. Car had 140,000 miles and was daily driven into the Bronx. The body was pretty much pristine but the city driving took its toll on almost every mechanical piece on the car. Suspension, drivetrain, electrical EVERYTHING. They made me buy it but were cool enough to pay for my insurance, gas was on me.

The insurance didn't save me much though because from when I was 16 to 20 I went through 2 full sets of suspension work, two trannies, an alternator, a radiator, motor mounts, had to get the entire front end rebuilt because it rusted through to the point where the entire motor was being held on by the back motor mount. Along with all that countless little pieces like light bulbs and headlight assemblies etc. I easily paid out twice the car's value in repairs.

However I learned so much in those 4 years. Every part that broke I learned about and found better replacements. I got into the modding game and learned so much.
I took that car from running a 16 second 1/4 mile stock to a 13.7 on only a 50 shot of nitrous. I loved that car to death because I learned so much about cars. In the meantime I saved and this April when I sold it I used the money from the mods I took off and sold as well as the sale money to put a down payment on my Camaro.

The point I'm trying to make is you will never learn or appreciate about cars unless you go through the dirty.
So my advice, get yourself an older car, mod it up and learn something in the process. It will help you later on in life.
Additionally I can guarantee that if you ask your parents to buy you a cheap car instead they won't forget that and maybe once you're in college they'll remember that and help you towards a nice upgrade.
If you do get handed a new car then be happy but just understand people like me work for what they own and we don't take kindly to those who advertise things they get handed to them. Until you are making a car payment you will never fully appreciate your car.

So again get a cheap car and use it to learn and mod and have fun with, if not, congrats on the car and keep the details on how you got it to yourself.

Well good luck, all 3 of my kids beat the tar out of there 1st car as did I. I'd rather the 2nd one be the meaningful one.

I didn't buy my first car either. My parents gave me the 1987 Buick Park Ave, all I had to do was have a job, pay for whatever breaks, and pay for insurance. It moved from Point A to point B just the same. It don't matter to me how old you are or what your parents do for you. I don't know you . Maybe you turn out to be a toolbox, maybe not, only time will tell. Anyways...if you didn't want the crap, you knew how to pose the question. You have been on this thread long enough to know what kind of reaction your original post would get....troll?

I see a trend here. I also had a truck as my first car. My parents set up the loan and I made the payments... they paid for insurance... But hey those payments took most of my paycheck during college, so I definitely learned how much car loans suck!

You are a troll...

If you have ever looked at this site before, you know what to expect if you start a thread like this one.

I have never understood why some one would come in here and say "i'm a kid and mommy and daddy are gonna buy me a fast car. what should it be?"

The only reason I can see for asking that is to try and get a rise out of people...

And imo that is the deffinition of a troll...
