The diesel engine with all its torque would be a BIG plus on power and capability... The suspension is the strong point of the Tacoma right now, so it wouldn't need a ton of beefing.

pull more, but that doesnt mean you can carrymore. also keep in mind the weight of a diesel (depending on how much power you are wanting). you could put a smaller diesel in the truck to keep weight down, but then you are reducing the power output as well.
its more than just the suspension that is involved with payload and towing capability, the whole structure of the truck would need upgrading in order to haul more.

urea injection is a PITA, the new cummins 6.7L motors have been designed to meet the new emissions requirements without the use of urea
and their future counterparts are being designed to continue on past the 2015 emissions req without urea and a whole slew of new tech.
