C7 Corvette Chief Engineer Explains Why 6 Speed Auto Transmission Chosen

C7 Corvette Stingray chief engineer Tadge Juechter explains the choice to go with a 6 speed automatic transmission (and not 8 speed) for the 2014 Corvette – see 10:30 into this video.

Essentially, the reason is that the 6 speed is good for high torque engine like the LT1, while fitting an 8 speed just adds weight and mass.

The next (second) installment of GM’s 2014 Stingray Revealed features has been posted. This one focuses on the 2014 Corvette Stingray interior, which features a design, materials, and quality that GM feels is a departure from the much maligned interiors of past Corvettes.

Watch the 2013 Super Bowl MVP, Joe Flacco, being presented the keys to his newly won 2014 Corvette Stingray (for being the game’s MVP).

Those are just a representative key and Corvette however, as production of Flacco’s actual C7 will not be until production begins in the Summer-Fall.

Corvette7 site member Vette_85 was the lucky civilian who spotted the three C7 Corvette Stingrays testing in Arizona. He has shared these photos with us, which give us the best look yet at the Laguna Blue and Black colors, as well as the colors compared to Torch Red.

FYI, the black Stingray was a Z51 package with 7 speed manual. The blue and red ones were base models. Thanks to Vette_85 for sharing!
