Brake Dust?
First let me introduce myself. My name is Gary and on this board I go by 1940 Willys Coupe. I have just purchased a new 2010 Camaro SS black on black with a 426 Hp. six speed. Have learned alot on this site about cleaning a black car etc.
My question is brake dust. Is there any aftermarket company that makes covers to go over the calpiers to eliminate the dust. Any help with name of companies and contact info would be appreciated. I have a 39 Ford Coupe that I have owned since 1963 and a 1940 All Steel Willys Coupe that I have owned since 1986 both are stoned boned hot rods and alot of fun. My new "Factory Hotrod Camaro" is a awesome car to say the least. GM did get this car right! Any help on the brake dust would be appreciated. Thanks for allowing me to be part of this informative board. Gary aka 1940 Willys Coupe From Deep In the Heart of Texas (Longview,TX) |

The only fix I know of is going to ceramic pads ...

Look at some Hawk Pads, they are probably the best fix, and many people have used them and love them.

I'm not totally useless..

+2 on the Hawk Ceramic pads. The dust shields are bad as they block the needed airflow that cools the brakes. Plus I don't know of any that will clear the Brembos....
I can attest to the HUGE reduction in brake dust with the Hawk Ceramics. There are several forum sponsors here that sell them... I got mine thru ECS tho others have come on board since and may be competitive with them....

I'm always amazed at how much brake dust is on the wheels, and how much comes off with a simple wash. When these pads die I'll be looking into the Hawk Ceramic pads.

I put some slotted rotors, and Hawk pads on the front of the car, and left the rears stock.
I have noticed a signifigant difference in the brake dust left when I am cleaning the wheels from front to back. I will be putting Hawks on the rear soon as well. |

Chrome wheels- Brake dust doesn't stick to them. Another plus besides the great look.

I swapped out my OEM pads for Hawk ceramics after 800 miles. I got tired of washing the wheels every 4-5 days. The difference was amazing...
