Where is the A/C supposed to drain on the ground?

Hello,

Where is the A/C supposed to drain on the ground? in the center of the car? My car has been running in the driveway for about an hour with the A/C on max to test to see if the A/C drains. It's about 95ºF outside. So far al I see is a tiny drop, one drop, under the center of the car near the tranny. Is this the place? should there be more ? Any service bulliten on it we can upload as PDF ?

Why are you idling your car in 95 degree heat with the A/C on for an hour?????

Don't do that, I don't care how bad you want to see where the evaporator drains. That's the WORST thing you can do to a car.

If you are worried about it take it to the dealer and have them look at it, but don't idle your car for an hour. COMPLETE waste of gas, HUGE emissions, and VERY bad for your catalitic converters.

It drains near the center of the car by the transmission, but from what I have read most of the water is directed next to the exhaust so most if not all is evaporated before it has a chance to leak on the ground, I see your in Mass. , with the low humidity there you probably will never see any water at all, where as where I am it is Extremely humid and all I have ever seen is a spot about 6 inches in diameter.

Ck. under your front carpets to make sure they are not wet.

There have been problems with the drain tube not attached or kinked.
Search the threads many posts last year.

The A/C drain is directly above the trans in the center of the hump.

This was one post...............

Seems this is a problem that needs to be addressed to many of the early cars.
There is a large rubber grommet under the car near the area where the shifter would be. The drain hose gets pinched in the grommet portion of the A/C drain.
The techs fished out the hose of the pinched grommet and over a gallon of water came out. The techs said it was like a shower under the car.

I think that is over exaggerated. I can think of a lot worse things you can do to a car.

No oil/No coolant

But to get on topic they have very little or no drain on the ground.

AC%20Drain[1].pdf

The water will drain from the drivers side top of the hump above the transmission. If the grommet was pinched and blocks the drain, the trans has to be lowered in order to replace the grommet. There is a lot of heat from both the transmission and the exhaust, so some of the water does evaporate. The thing to really look for as mentioned before is the carpet getting wet, also a musty smell from your vents.

Hey Bee!

Ok, so I have made a habit of turning the fan on high and shutting the A/C off to "dry out" the line a bit just before I get home. Did that with the last car, seemed to be a smart thing to do. I've noticed that sometimes when I do this, I get a little water sputter through the louvers in the center (right center one to be exact). Reading the PDF, it says that some customers "feel moisture coming from the center vent" DOH! I guess I'll keep an eye on my carpets. I don't like the idea of having them dropping the transmission.

Second point - when I had the car up on a lift last week, I noticed what I thought was the A/C drain tube. There was a tube that ran down from the engine compartment along the right of center of the car and had a 45deg bend downward and ended with it's opening point downward. Does anyone have any idea what that is?
