Bryan Nesbitt out as Cadillac GM...

Honestly I never enjoyed the PT Cruiser styling and never saw value behind the car. I also can't stand the ugly Caddy's out there on the roads these days. I am sure this is a minority opinion, but I didn't think Nesbitt was much of a GM or designer. This may also signal Lutz being fired since he hired Nesbitt from Chrysler.

as far as us designers in cadillac...we are none to happy about this.. when nesbitt was promoted to his position as cadillac general manager, we all felt this was huge plus for design and such. The people who are usually assigned to those positions usually are very disconnected to design and have more of a marketing / buisness make. Having someone in that position based from design really would have allowed more decisions that would have helped the overall design and pushed what the image of cadillac should be in the form of its cars, and brand image.....it takes someone with design knowledge to understand sometimes building the right car wont look great in the books, (examples, audi a8, bmw 7 series, these cars do not generate much profit, however they escalate the brand) but you need certain cars to be successful in the long run..if you have someone up top making the decisions based on only immediate profitability..you wont get those decisions that need to happen

As to what tmurphycardesign said, I agree to most of it. I work in software developement and we have the same problems. But my dissatisfaction with the PT, HHR, Caddy designs is a personal. I just don't enjoy the way those cars look. I don't even understand what the new CTS Coupe design is supposed to inspire. Like I said, I am probably in the minority and I don't know the inside of the industry, but as a consumer, I just didn't enjoy anything Cadillac has done in the past few years.

GM Announces New North American Leadership Team
DETROIT, March 2 /PRNewswire/ --
General Motors today announced a restructured North American organization with a number of key leadership changes. Intense Focus on the Customer GM North America is focused on strengthening consideration for the company's brands and products, shifting from a combined sales and marketing organization to one that enables the company to engage experts in each respective role. With a flatter structure, accountability is elevated to the highest level. "It's become extremely clear to me since taking this role that there is a better way to structure this organization," said Mark Reuss, GM North America president. A leader in design, Bryan Nesbitt is leaving Cadillac and returning to his home organization as executive director, advanced concept group, reporting to Ed Welburn, vice president, global design. Reporting to Reuss, Steve Carlisle is appointed vice president, U.S. sales operations, responsible for dealer network, retail sales support and fleet & commercial. Carlisle was most recently executive director, GM South East Asia Operations, and president, managing director, GM Thailand. Carlisle will be replaced by Martin Apfel, who will report to Tim Lee, president of GM International Operations. Apfel was most recently executive director of global manufacturing and planning. Senior executives reporting to Carlisle, responsible for their respective functions include:

the xts is not the sixteen...and this proves my point.....in design..WE wanted to do the sixteen, WE wanted a proper rearwheel drive flagship, and WE proposed a final design... and guess what? it was shot down...why because the beancounters and people up in the cadillac mangament positions looked at the books, looked at the profit sheets and decided a flagship sedan over the epsilon platform (ie the malibu, lacrosse, insignia etc.) would be more profitable...so design took what we were given, and you cant do a rearwheel design over a proportion like that...and so, we have the xts...and in my opinion with what the designers were given (the platform and its frontwheel drive proportion) i think they made a pretty good looking car....whether u like the current design aeshtetic of cadillac is completly subjective.....
